The Walt Disney Company Lead Infrastructure Engineer in Lake Buena Vista, Florida
The Lead Platform Engineer oversees highly-complex maintenance, design, development, administration, and support activities, including software, platform, and configuration. You will be responsible for the operational support and maintenance of platform(s) and infrastructure, including monitoring and maintaining platform(s) and infrastructure as well as leading day-to-day operations. You will use your best practices in day-to-day operations and work with business units to plan, design, and implement large-scale, platform-oriented projects. The ideal candidate will use data to plan for growth needs, upgrades, migration, and functionality as well as provide technical guidance and oversight and leads, coaches, and mentors the Platform Engineering team.
Oversee the business segment’s RedHat Linux systems management. This role has a systems engineering component in troubleshooting, diagnosing and resolving system issues as first point of contact, in addition to development and engineering of new solutions and improvements to existing solutions to mitigate or prevent degradation or outage to the environment.
Designs forward-thinking strategy for the sustainment and iterative improvement of a physical, virtualized, and cloud-aware enterprise environment
Partners with application, delivery, and sustainment partners to provide reliable and cost-effective solutions to unique challenges
Works with vendor teams and corporate alliance partners to oversee development of customizations to packaged solution offerings, and reviews their work in terms of quality and adherence to standards
Partners with Security to report on, validate, and assure full compliance to Disney standards (PCI, MSBs, RedHat RHSAs, etc)
Architects best practices used in the maintenance and administration of systems, including software platform, and configuration updates across multiple business units.
Defines the processes used in identification of the root causes of operational issues and leads root cause analysis; resolves problems and/or recommends solutions for implementation by others.
Oversees the development and implementation of tools, automation, and scripts to facilitate multiple platform maintenance, operational efficiency, reliability, and administration.
Architects development work to create tools that span multiple business units.
Plans and executes large-scale platform-oriented projects across Platform Engineering team that includes segment initiatives and updates to platform and infrastructure, products, and services.
Prioritizes work and assigns work to team.
Leads multiple levels of testing prior to release of new and upgraded platform and infrastructure, products, and/or services.
Uses data and metrics to plan for growth needs, plan upgrades, migration, and functionality.
Develops and reviews architecture, platform and infrastructure plans, develops and guides staff
Designs, develops, test, deploys, maintain, and improves high-volume transactional software platform(s) and infrastructure
Develops broad technical solutions that meet specifications and that impact future development and operations.
Basic Qualifications :
8 to 12 years of progressively related experience in Systems Engineering and/or software development.
1 to 3 years of project or team lead experience.
Advanced knowledge of systems applications and hardware, server architecture, operating platforms, NAS/SAN technologies, and internet and web applications.
Demonstrated mastery of Linux Systems Administration (7+ years)
Excellent technical skills as it relates to the Linux Operating System (RedHat 5/6/7, yum repositories, RPM development and testing), NAS storage, network, and security
Experience with Desired State Configuration and Revision Control, specifically as it relates to managing a large-scale enterprise environment (Chef, Git, GitHub, GitLab)
Fluency in programming/scripting skills for automation in at least two of Bash/Korn, Ruby, Python, and Perl
Proven understanding of TCP/IP and related protocols (HTTP, FTP, SMB, NFS)
Experience with IT service management standards and practices (ITIL)
Excellent presentation skills with a high degree of comfort communicating across all levels of the organization
Demonstrated experience in IaaS and PaaS administration and support in AWS and/or Azure
Advanced experience with:
Tools and middleware including Chef, Ansible, Terraform, MQ, TC Server, WebSphere
Database software (Microsoft SQL, Oracle)
SAN/NAS Storage Platforms
Apache Tomcat, IIS
Project management methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications :
Demonstrated understanding of RedHat’s kickstart functionality
Experience in buy vs. build decision making and tool evaluation
Advanced technical skills in server hardware (HPE C7000 Blade Systems), SAN Storage (HPE LeftHand), and server virtualization (VMware vSphere 5.5, 6.0, 6.5)
Familiarity with the iSCSI technology and specifics as it relates to an enterprise implementation
Experience with CHEF and Ruby Scripting
Experience using VersionOne, ServiceNow, or other industry standard incident and task management systems
Strong focus on IT security best practices
Experience with AWS and/or Azure Cloud Solutions
Required Education :
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or similar field or related work experience.
Preferred Education :
Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
