AbbVie Associate Director, GMA Medical Education Project Management in Lake County, Illinois

The External Customer Engagement team focuses on Global and US therapeutic area customer engagement strategic planning for Global Medical Affairs including key customer engagement functions for advisory boards and medical education planning and execution. We have an exciting opportunity for an Associate Director, Global Medical Affairs Medical Education Project Management reporting to the Director of Customer Engagement for Global Medical Affairs which will be responsible for the planning and execution of Global medical education activities.

Key Responsibilities Include: * Maintain GMA Medical Education (MedEd) standards through high quality and timely implementation of MedEd services. Oversee the execution of all MedEd programs, effectively employing and coordinating all available resources and involved parties. Ensures that cost, timeline, scope, and risk management plans are in place. Ensures that accurate and compliant documentation of all program materials and approvals are in place. * Ensure team is adequately and sufficiently staffed according to Area/TA MedEd strategy & brand portfolio priorities. This includes advisory and action in recruiting and hiring and engaging suppliers in tight collaboration with team and functional management. * Transform customer needs into successfully implemented solutions. Accountable for ensuring the GMA MedEd team delivers relevant, innovative, engaging, and balanced medical education programs in a manner consistent with Global, Area, and Affiliate policies, procedures, and guidelines. * Selecting MedEd partners based on a thorough needs assessment and a critical evaluation for capacity to develop high quality, innovative accredited medical education programming consistent with principles of adult learning and ensures compliance with appropriate standards and all internal and external policies and regulations. * Provide tools and frameworks to team to ensure high quality standards in MedEd planning and delivery as well as to leverage synergies within the team. Identify, share, and embrace new technologies and best practices. * Build and maintains relationships with key external and internal stakeholders, to promote MedEd services and to gather feedback and insights for shaping the MedEd service portfolio to customer needs. * Interact with and influence all levels of management and across teams to develop strategies and execute action plans that will achieve the objectives of the GMA Med Ed Execution center of excellence. Critical Success Factors: * Excellent implementation, self-management and organizational skills; able to manage workload, set personal and team priorities and adjust as needed; accounting competence for management of multi-million dollar budget. * Strong business acumen; ability to think strategically and translate a strategy to an innovative and implementable plan. * Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship building skills. * Strong problem-solving skills; ability to anticipate and recognize problems, diagnose root causes and take corrective action to prevent recurrence within the team. * Experience in leading in a multi-task environment, across multiple countries, as well as in a virtual and matrix organization.

Basic: * Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, business, or similar. Advanced degree in related disciple preferred. * 8 years of experience in pharmaceutical or healthcare environment. * Demonstrated experience successfully working in cross functional matrix organization. * Project management experience strongly preferred emphasis on the business (contracting, outsourcing, finance) and scientific aspects preferred. * Experience working with external customer engagement and planning strongly preferred. * Demonstrated strong leadership experience.
