SUMMARY: Lancaster General Health/Penn Medicine is currently seeking a Financial Counselor to work with patients to assist with determining if financial assistance is necessary for medical services previously rendered or may be incurred. The Financial Counselor will also identify and understand patient needs in order to facilitate the timely resolution of outstanding patient account balances. This position is located at Norlanco Family Medicine. *This position will cross-train as a Customer Service Specialist. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: · Researches patient accounts to identify any outstanding balances and ensures information is accurate and appropriate prior to taking action to collect outstanding monies for services rendered. · Discusses outstanding balances with patients providing pertinent information relating to the details of the balance, services rendered and current financial status for the purpose of resolving any outstanding patient balances. · Informs patients in need of financial assistance of all applicable financial assistance programs available. Provides instructions and guidance to patients to complete any applicable financial assistance forms. · Establishes and implements acceptable payments terms with patients in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. · Refers patients to external agencies in order to facilitate the timely completion of financial assistance applications in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. REQUIREMENTS: · High School diploma or equivalent. · Strong written and verbal communication skills. · Strong organizational skills. · Ability to apply strong analytical qualities. · Two years of medical experience is preferred. · Two years of customer service/public contact experience is preferred.
