WORK CONDITIONS: * The Staff Nurse should be clinically competent in his/her area in PPCU, PACU or Endo service line, floating to task as needed in a different department to the home department, interfacing directly with patients, physicians and families. * The Staff Nurse must have the ability to make decisions accurately and timely, taking clinical and environmental factors into consideration. * The PPCU/PACU Staff Nurse’s area of responsibility may be stressful at times, with multi-tasking skills essential. * The Staff Nurse will be expected to participate in the on-call roster as needed * Participate in all Core Measures, SCIP initiatives, Safety initiatives as determined by the Hospital * Participate in all annual educational requirements, including Healthstream, Code of Conduct and Skills Lab. * Participate in all regulatory compliance initiatives, and any regulatory body surveys.

SKILLS: * Clinically proficient in his or her area of expertise, in addition to acting as a resource and mentor for the clinical staff under his/her supervision * Understand and practice to his/her Scope of Practice as delineated by the State Board of Nursing in Nevada. * The PPCU/PACU staff Nurse should also be aware of the practice limitations for other certified or licensed staff whom he/she supervises, and make assignments and decisions based upon this knowledge, when necessary. * Understand and resource the facility wide Policies and Procedures, and act as a resource for the staff he/she supervises. * The Staff Nurse should be aware of both the department and facility’s Chain of command, reporting mechanisms and incidents in the work environment in a timely and factual manner. * The PPCU/PACU staff Nurse is an essential point of contact for staff, ancillary departments, physicians, patients & families, and is expected to communicate and interact in a professional and courteous manner at all times * Complete all annual requirements regarding Age Specific educational requirements from infant through geriatric. * Complete and maintain all annual educational requirements as determined by the department/hospital using Healthstream, Skills Labs, In-services, meetings and or required classes. * The PPCU/PACU Staff Nurse should also seek out clinical workshops or educational seminars in an effort to not only remain clinically competent but increase clinical proficiency and efficiencies, , * The Staff Nurse is expected to participate in problem solving within the department, * The Staff Nurse is expected to actively participate in Survey Readiness, Emergency preparedness meeting, Inventory counts, and attend staff meeting. * The PPCU/PACU staff Nurse is expected to know and understand Core Measures and actively support all Quality Initiatives

  • /ICU skills and knowledge to assist with the management of the acute post-surgical/procedural patient in the immediate post-operative phase, including ventilator supported patients./
  • /IV competent, understand and program IV pumps./
  • /Ability to interpret Critical Lab Values, EKG’s and the patient whose medical condition is unstable and changing./
  • /Ability to assess, re-assess and activate care in a Critically ill patient during Peri-operative care/
  • /Provide care to the clinical patient in the Peri-Operative setting./
  • /Competent with Accudose, epidural pumps, PCA pumps, peripheral nerve pumps/
  • /Competent with Meditech and computer skills,/
  • /Caring for the step-down recovery patient/
  • /Cross training to PPCU or Endo as needed./
  • /Participating in orientation for new employees/
  • /Delegation of tasks to ancillary staff and CNA’s./ / / / /



  • Nursing degree from an accredited school of nursing, Baccalaureate in Nursing preferred


  • Licensed in State of Nevada – Registered Nurse


  • Minimum of 3-5 years in Peri-Operative Services, for either Endoscopy, Pre-& Post Operative Care unit, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit. Or ICU required to qualify for consideration


  • ACLS
  • PALS
  • BLS
  • Moderate Sedation – in house certification
  • CPAN, and or/membership of ASPAN preferred.
