POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Alumni Engagement Manager is responsible for developing, implementing and managing the new University Alumni Initiative. The Alumni Initiative will detect and direct emphasis points throughout the Alumni landscape, from New Student Recruitment (Alumni referrals and Event Contacts), Alumni and Alumni Chapter Management, along with Event Management tracking and tactical assistance. This position will utilize the Alumni Management software through a developing and ongoing expertise in the full functionality of that software. Working under the Director of Marketing, this position will interface with several other departments including University Outreach, Marketing, Communications, and Admissions and Student Advising. This is not a supervisory position. The position works on site in Lenexa, KS.


  • Develop, implement and manage the University Alumni Initiative effort

  • Develop and maintain the information gained from various input sources to build the Alumni database

  • Oversee timelines for contacting Alumni, in various categories, on a planned and predictive basis

  • Oversee the integrity and accuracy of contacts in the Alumni database

  • Create reports for other departments and management personnel that illustrate the current state and progress of the Alumni program

  • Assist the University Outreach department in the Event Management of events in demographic areas throughout the US to identify potential or current pockets of Alumni and their viability for local Alumni Chapters

  • Recruit Alumni volunteers for Alumni Chapter Leadership, Volunteer Services, and Event Planning

  • Maintain a calendar of events that will track the before and after metrics of local Alumni Chapter events

  • Help to nurture local Alumni Chapter development and success

  • Serve on cross-functional teams, as necessary, as an expert on how the Alumni population is able to impact various University initiatives and local service opportunities

  • Manage multiple projects

  • Perform other tasks assigned by management.


  • Degree in Business, Marketing, Advertising, Communications or related field preferred.

  • Previous Agency Experience Desired (Marketing, Advertising or Online)

  • 5-7 years of increasingly responsible marketing management experience, preferably in education or a consumer product or service with multiple markets/locations, and preferably for a high-consideration product or service

  • Demonstrated vendor management experience, especially in value negotiations

  • Ability to operate successfully within a goal-driven,fast-pacedenvironment

  • High level of integrity, sensitivity to confidential information, and discretion required

  • Results oriented and able to complete tasks on deadline with little supervision.

  • A high degree of organization and self-motivation is required.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.

  • Able to effectively communicate orally (in person and by telephone) and in writing.

  • Able to multi-task, yet maintain close attention to detail and timeliness of work production.

  • Able to work in a positive team-oriented manner with a variety of people (students, faculty, staff, administrators, vendors, and members of the general public).

  • Language Skills: Able to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Able to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Able to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Able to effectively present information to executive management, faculty, staff, and/or students.

  • Mathematical Skill: Able to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

  • Reasoning Ability:Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to present facts to faculty for departmental response. Able to deal with a variety of information presented in oral or written formats. Able to deal with non-verbal behavior in assisting with problem resolution.
