The Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center is a 673-bed tertiary healthcare facility which provides care to over 100,000 veterans in northern Ohio. We provide care through our main medical facility at the Wade Park campus, 13 community based outpatient clinics, and 3 vet centers. The Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center is recruiting for a Psychiatrist at the Mansfield Outpatient Clinic in Community Outpatient Service. The Psychiatrist duties include:

  • Undertaking a spectrum of clinical duties that include, but are not limited to, providing general outpatient psychiatric treatment, psychiatric primary care and acute inpatient treatment as needed to an adult psychiatric population with diverse diagnoses including major affective disorders, psychotic disorders, post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD), and substance use disorders.
  • Providing diagnostic assessment/evaluation and therapeutic interventions, treatment planning, psychiatric medication management, substance abuse counseling, monitoring of clinical response to treatment, inpatient psychiatric consults, coverage for the inpatient psychiatric ward as needed, adjustments in levels of care as necessary and other specialized services as required.

In order to qualify for this position you must meet the following requirements:

  • U.S Citizenship (Non-citizens may be appointed only if it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens).
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • Completion of first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Must be board certified or eligible.

Academic appointment with Case School of Medicine and VA salary will be commensurate with qualifications. Candidates must be highly motivated, flexible and able to work as part of an integrated team that provides sound diagnostic and therapeutic care to veterans with a wide range of psychiatric disorders.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
