Bayer Research and Development Specialist II in Maricopa, AZ, Arizona
Your tasks and responsibilities
The major responsibilities of a R&D Specialist II are as follows:
• Work with farmer cooperators and travel to off-site field locations; • Participate in Bayer Environmental Safety and Health (ESH) programs to ensure that all employees maintain a safe working environment. Participate in Bayer Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure genetic purity of all experimental varieties. Participate in the Bayer Stewardship program; • Operate and maintain field research equipment (tractors, plot planters, spray equipment, plot pickers, etc.); • Assist in the management of the seed increase and plant breeding program. Duties include seed processing and packaging, along with planting and harvest of populations, progeny rows, and seed increases; • Assist with yield trials and assigned farm management activities. Package seed, put packets in planting order, help plant, harvest yield trials, and is responsible for insect scouting activities; • Assist with data collection and reporting. Duties include such activities as collecting plant phenotypic ratings, assisting with data analysis as assigned, assisting with the year-end station report, complete monthly progress reports, and actively participate in weekly planning meetings; • Supervisory duties: Supervise part-time staff in hand-harvest and processing of cotton seed, and as assigned. Responsible for reporting of hourly payroll to manager, and participate in the hiring process for temporary employees. Coordinate and implement all aspects of assigned research programs and research-scale seed increases; • Travel will be required within the US for work in off-station plots and for meetings.

• BS degree required with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in agricultural research or relevant field; • Excellent organizational skills, communication skills, and attention to detail; • Working knowledge of personal computers, and MS software.
• Knowledge of research planting, harvesting and cotton ginning processes is preferred; • Experience with mechanical farming operations required; experience with operation and maintenance of farming equipment preferred.
