*Major Duties: *This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Eastern Region, Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN 4), Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center (CMCVAMC), Ambulatory Care, Burlington County VA Outpatient Clinic (Burlington County) in Marlton, NJ.

Performs diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic services to the veteran population. The nature of the work is ambulatory care: health services provided on an outpatient basis to the veterans who visit the Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) and depart after treatment on the same day. Provides care for veterans with acute medical conditions or illnesses to diagnose and stabilize veterans with the primary goal of improving health. In those instances where in-inpatient care is needed, the physicians work closely with veterans and their families to transfer the veteran to the VA Medical Center or local institutions best suited to treat the Veteran. During emergency situations, the physician is trained to stabilize veterans awaiting transfer to a local emergency room.

The Physician is responsible for managing the full spectrum of primary care responsibilities including admission from an outpatient site, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment, consultation for patients presenting with general medicine complaints and diseases. To manage primary care patients the following will be necessary: ordering appropriate lab work, ordering appropriate diagnostic tests, requesting consultations to specialty services, providing appropriate follow-up care, and referral of patients with non-medicine complaints, diseases, and injuries to appropriate disciplines for diagnosis and treatment.

The physician will work in a team setting with other physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and support staff assigned to perform duties to accomplish the treatment of veteran patients. Computer skills are essential as the Philadelphia VA Medical Center is fully computerized for note documentation, entering orders and requesting consults.

The incumbentmay be asked to work at more than one site (i.e., combination of the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center and the CBOCs). May be required to work extended hours or on a weekend if the clinic is open during these non-administrative hours. May also perform the following as directed by Service Chief:* *supervises and trains medical students, residents and other learners; conducts clinical research studies; involvement in quality management and patient safety involving primary care; data analysis related to primary care clinical operations. Attends additional meetings and educational opportunities with Service Chief approval.

  2. Have a degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting for a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
  3. Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.
  4. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year the degree was granted.
  5. Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e. Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.

  6. Must possess and maintain current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

  7. Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.

  8. Meet the physical standards outlined in VA Directive and Handbook 5019. This will be evidenced by completion of a pre-employment physical.

  9. As this a direct patient care position, physician selected must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 USC 7402(d) and 7407(d).

  10. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
