Preventative Maintenance Foreman
Supervises the preventive and corrective maintenance programs through management of maintenance personnel. Participate in goal-setting processes and strategic planning for mission support with other department leaders and I&O Management. Contribute to a safe working environment by coordinating employee trainings and identification and mitigation of environmental and job hazards. Maintain effective communications between departments and represent department as needed at operational meetings. Provide suggestions and recommendations for re-hiring, termination and advancement of staff. Routinely utilize Independent judgment and discretion to solve problems and identify potential issues. Highly skilled in all phases of industrial maintenance and/or commercial facilities maintenance.
GENERAL DUTIES (not all inclusive):
Implements and maintains a safe workplace program and ensures that safety is the highest priority in the workplace
Supervises preventive and corrective maintenance crew tasks on projects, equipment and facilities in Antarctica.
Determines proper maintenance procedures, setting up bench stocks of supplies, and planning maintenance tasks, as well as supervising and accomplishing maintenance tasks.
Advises the Maintenance Supervisor on job progress and material requirements.
Accomplishes various projects utilizing design drawings, diagrams, and specifications.
Routinely inspects worksites and evaluates staff tasking.
Ensures staff attends required trainings and maintains records of departmental trainings.
Evaluates job hazards and communicates information to staff verbally and in writing through various venues, including weekly and/or daily crew meetings.
Interprets project tasking utilizing design drawings, specifications and wiring diagrams.
Responsible for providing timely performance feedback to staff and timely submission of end-of-season evaluations to Human Resources.
Works with Human Resources to address conflict or personnel issues as they arise.
Access, review and approve electronic employee timesheets and expense reports.
Handles confidential matters (personnel actions, management reports, etc.) in accordance with management policy and with the highest degree of professionalism.
Communicates professionally, both orally and in writing, with their subordinates as needed to relay information they need in order to be successful in their jobs. This includes, but is not limited to, staff meetings, performance appraisals, job requirements, division metrics, projects, Quality Standard Procedures, and safety practices.
May be required to work outside on various jobsites in extreme cold weather and environmentally challenging conditions.
Interacts with other partner companies, the National Science Foundation, military and other agency officials, both over the telephone and in person. Is kind, courteous, cooperative and professional at all times.
Performs other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Minimum eight years of documented experience in all phases of preventive and corrective maintenance, including industrial and/or commercial facilities maintenance experience on refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fuel oil burners is required.
Minimum three of the eight years experience must be in a lead, supervisor or foreman role.
The ability to read design drawings, specifications, and diagrams is required.
Minimum intermediate computer skills in spreadsheets, word processing, e-mail and database programs are required.
Must be able to quickly learn and utilize work order and timesheet computer software programs and assist staff.
Experience with Computer Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) is preferred.
Microsoft Word and Office experience preferred.
Experience with PLC/DDC, VFD, HMI, automated building systems is preferred.
Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies and equipment safely up to the safety regulation maximum.
Must be able to use sound judgment and possess solid decision making ability to quickly, safely and effectively solve problems.
Must be able to pro-actively identify job hazards and communicate those hazards effectively. Attention to detail is crucial.
Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods is required.
Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors.
Must successfully complete the physical, dental and psychological (if applicable) examinations as required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica.
Must participate in community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts and safety objectives.
