The VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS) consists of three inpatient facilities located at Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Livermore, plus seven outpatient clinics in San Jose, Fremont, Capitola, Monterey, Stockton, Modesto, and Sonora. These facilities provide some of the world's finest medical care and cutting-edge technology.
VAPAHCS is a teaching hospital with an affiliation with the Stanford University School of Medicine which provides a rich academic environment including medical training for physicians in virtually all specialties and subspecialties. Functional Statement Title/#: Staff Psychiatrist- Outpatient Mental Health
The incumbent, who also serves as a staff physician reports directly to the Director of Outpatient Mental Health or designee who in turn reports directly to the Deputy Associate Chief of Staff for Mental Health Operations, and is responsible for providing psychiatric services to eligible veterans through the VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS).
The incumbent will be responsible for:
- Evaluation and management of patients
- Supervise trainees including medical student and residents
- Serve in hospital committees such as Medication Management Committee or Pain Committees
- Not Required
- Must pass pre-employment examination.
- Designated and/or Random Drug Testing required.
- Background and/or Security Investigation required.
- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- Citizenship of the United States. Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with Department of Veterans Affairs policy.
- Degree:Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
- Licensure: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Residency: Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
- English Language: Proficiency in spoken and written English.
