The Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS) is a consolidated health care system that includes VA Medical Centers in Montgomery and Tuskegee Alabama as well as Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) in Dothan Alabama, Ft. Rucker Alabama, Monroeville, Alabama and Columbus Georgia. The primary duty station for this position is at the Montgomery Campus. The incumbent will be required to work on site at the other locations as required.

The Central Alabama Veteran Health Care System is seeking a energetic Gastroenterologist to provide consultation and treatment for patients in all patient care settings and performs diagnostic and therapeutic invasive procedures. Outpatient clinics may be held on both the Montgomery and Tuskegee campuses. He/She chairs or participates in committees and workgroups. He/She participates in student and resident training programs. The Gastroenterologist may have on-call time and may work off-hour shifts, weekends, and holidays as priorities demonstrate a need.

  • Skill in performing diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower endoscopy, including stent placement, PEGs, and dilation.

  • Maintain current BLS and ACLS certification

Basic Requirements:

  • US Citizenship. Citizen of United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy)

  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.

  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.

  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

Preferred Experience:Board Certification in Gastroenterology preferred but not required. Proficiency with EUS and ERCP is preferred.
