The Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS) is a consolidated health care system that includes VA Medical Centers in Montgomery and Tuskegee Alabama as well as Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) in Dothan Alabama, Ft. Rucker Alabama, Monroeville, Alabama, Columbus Georgia and Montgomery VA Clinic. The primary duty station for this position is at the Montgomery Campus. The incumbent will be required to work on site at the other locations as required.

The Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS) is seeking energetic full-time permanent Hospitalist. Board Certified/Board Eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Practice. The selected Hospitalist is accountable to the Associate Chief of Staff for Acute Care & Specialties and the Chief of Staff. The physician-hospitalist is an independent care provider who is highly skilled in the management of patient's acute care needs and coordinates subspecialty evaluation and treatment. The provider has responsibilities for the evaluation, care, and disposition of patients, ordering appropriate diagnostic tests, determining need for hospitalization or transferring the patient to another facility. Must be board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine, and experienced at management of medical conditions requiring hospitalization, and interested in engaging in ongoing process improvement with respect to measures of quality care, patient safety, patient satisfaction, patient and family education, utilization management, cost control. The Hospitalist provides teaching experiences for students and residents. Provider Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required.
Work Schedule: Rotating Tours (determined by coverage needs). Normal work schedule is 12-hour shifts on 7 day on/7 day off schedule. Montgomery Campus: 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m. Tuskegee Campus:7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Normal work schedule is twelve (12) hour shifts on 7 day on/7 day off schedule.

- Will be required to provide services for all CAVHCS locations as needed.

Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
First-Year Residency (Internship): Must have completed a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed. [For a VA resident, the appropriate Deans Committee and Resident Review Board may recommend appointment on the basis of the candidate's acceptability for residency training]. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals, American Medical Association, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies or their equivalents which the Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. The Board may determine that the residency requirement has been met if the candidate has completed 1 year of postgraduate education.
