Hazardous Materials Coordinator

This is a managerial position based at the Baghdad Embassy Complex (BEC), Iraq and will be associated with the Project Management Office (PMO). The selected candidate will be responsible for the safe and effective country Hazardous Material Operations and will report directly to the Environmental Safety Health Manager.. The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.

Specific Duties:

  • Shipping HAZWASTE in accordance with current RECR, OSHA , SHEM and Local and National Laws of Iraq

  • Storage of HAZWASTE in accordance with current RECR, OSHA , SHEM and Local and National Laws of Iraq

  • Assist with HAZMAT Training

  • HAZMAT Compliance to include disposal and transportation as well labeling, packaging and marking

  • HAZMAT Plan Development and Evaluation; Facilities

  • Standard Operating Procedure Development (Internal and External)

  • Spill Prevention, Mitigation, Countermeasures and Contingency Assessment

  • Hazardous Spill Remediation Team lead

  • Failure Modes and Affects Analysis

  • Fault Tree Analysis (Root Cause)

  • Maintain User Level Equipment, stock and inventory incidentals to include Maintenance of such

  • Environmental Sampling/Testing

  • Overall Hazardous Material Spill Team Service Management

  • Coordination of disposal and recycling with established installation resources.

  • Oversight of SDS catalog development and maintenance. Ensure SDS’s are rolled out to FD.


  • The Hazardous Material Coordinator must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the field of logistics/supply with tenure specific to hazardous material administration.

  • Must be HAZWOPER 40 Hour Certified (or current 8 hour annual refresher).

  • HAZWOPER Instructor Competency and Qualification

  • Hazardous Cargo Declaration (49 CFR Dangerous Goods Declaration - Ground Transport)

  • Ability to work effectively with a multi-national staff and demanding customer(s).

  • Must be able to adjust and safely operate in austere conditions.


  • Education : A high school diploma or equivalent education is required.

  • Security vetting : Must be able to obtain a favorable MRPT or other required security certification prior to being hired is required for the position. Must maintain eligibility at the required certification level for the duration of the contract.

  • Language Skills : Strong, professional, oral and written English communication skills.

  • Citizenship : US Citizenship is required for this position

  • Medical : Favorable passage of a drug screen and physical examination. Must be able to lift materials and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.


  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office Platforms (Excel, Dbase, Visio, and Word).

  • Commercial Driver’s License with HAZMAT endorsement

  • Candidates should have a strong commitment to maintaining a high performing team which delivers high customer satisfaction.

  • Relevant overseas contracting experience (preferably with the US Department of State in the country of Iraq).
