External Job Description Responsible to the Newport News Data Center Operations and lifecycle management of the enterprise applications environments inclusive of systems running LINUX and Windows. These duties include but are not limited to the following:

•General System Administration – Follow pre-defined process for application evaluations, installs, upgrades, retirements, problem resolution, application monitoring, license management, and 24x7 on-call support as needed. Provide application support for up to 50 applications.

•Data Center Operational Support – Implementation of system architecture and integrations, system maintenance and environment upgrades as required by sector initiatives and policy.

•Data Management – Support the implementation of processes to successfully accomplish data migration per vendor or systems engineering guidance, as well as ensuring the requirements of data integrity and data retention / recovery are met.

•Communications – Provide professional and technical status and communication to customers and all levels of management as needed.

Maintains smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with network administrators. Interacts with users and evaluates vendor products. Makes recommendations to purchase hardware and software, coordinates installation and provides backup recovery. Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources. Ancillary duties may include setting up administrator and service accounts, maintaining system documentation, tuning system performance, installing system wide software and allocating mass storage space.
