BASIC PURPOSE : To assure accurate registration of all patients who will be serviced at Mercy Health System, for the Billing Office, Medical Records, Ancillary departments, and physicians.
SAFETY : Follows Mercy Health Partners policies and maintains high standards of safe work performance.
ATTENDANCE : Maintains a good attendance record as set forth in Mercy Health Partners policies.
PUNCTUALITY : Reports to work when the scheduled shift begins.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES : Registers all patients who will receive services at the Hospital. Maintains current knowledge of all insurance cards and billing necessities to obtain accurate demographic, financial, clinical information, as determined by JCAHO, Medicare, State and Federal guidelines. Determines when registering, if a lab patient must be a contract or regular outpatient. Must register patients in a timely manner, and strive to obtain an error rate of 4% or less. Performs numerous specimen and paper registrations for Ancillary departments in a timely manner. Must have the following clerical skills: CRT use, order entry, result look up, knowledge of managed care requirements, answering of multi-line phones, filing and faxing. Orders precise tests as prescribed by authorized provider. Proper use of PCA (compliance software) for all Medicare tests with LMRP’s. Welcomes all patients in a courteous and friendly manner. Displays appropriate “customer service skills” when interacting with both internal and external customers. Performs as a team player in all assigned areas. Demonstrates flexibility to perform duties assigned. Adapts well to new and changing situations in the health care environment. Attends all required inservices and departmental meetings. Demonstrates responsibility and accountability. Develops goals and strives for quality improvement. Maintains work area and keeps departmental supplies stocked.
EDUCATION, SPECIALIZED AND/OR TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
1. High school degree or equivalent
2. Must type 45 wpm
Shift and Job Schedule
PRN, work on an "as needed" basis
Variable shifts, start and end times.
Position will cover variable shifts within the department and will also cover weekends and holiday's.
