Collateral Management is one of the fastest growing areas within Global Collateral Services both in the market place and at BNY Mellon. This product has been developed to meet the continuous requirement by major financial investors and principle brokerage firms to improve their profit ratios. The successful management of their collateral (securities or cash) to support this is a logical development therefore within the securities industry.

BNY Mellon acts as an independent third party to any agreement between an Investor (with cash or securities to lend) and a Dealer (willing to borrow cash or securities against non-cash collateral), hence the often used term Tri-party. As the product has grown, other types of collateral management products have been added and combined with sophisticated collateralisation systems (developed by the Bank), this has enabled us to become the leader in collateral management services


To provide both major financial investors and principle brokerage firms with an efficient platform to optimise their investment performance through the use of an effective collateral management service and ensuring that our service delivery is flexible to adapt to the ever changing global investment market.

This will be achieved by :

Understanding and Resolving Investors/Dealers Needs : The ability to provide a proactive and personalised service adapted to Investors/Dealers needs at all times, available globally from our 5 service centers. This is made possible as GCM - DMM is also a client of The Bank of New York Mellon, consequently our clients have by association, access to the expertise, systems and the operational infrastructure of the Bank's global custodian services.

Product Development: Ensuring the GCM DMM product is always current and innovative by following market developments, internal technical investment and rigorous testing of applications and software.

Training: Periodically reviewing employee's product knowledge, client service and/or operational skills, and subsequent enrolment in Bank sponsored training programs and/or internal cross-training as necessary.

Employee Development: Ensuring all employees receive regular feedback on performance and review of goal achievement via the performance management program and interim informal assessment.

  • Responsibilities*

IT Project Involvement:

To understand thoroughly the requirements of the business in any given project

To understand the technicalities of the IT build

To write detailed, logical and thorough test scenarios

To carry out UAT in accordance with the test scenarios

To keep thorough and coherent documentation of all test results

Follow to resolution all defects found during testing

Offer professional opinion as to seriousness of defects found

IT Systems and Procedures:

To achieve an excellent working knowledge of all IT systems used to support the GCM and DMM business.

To understand how the business uses these systems.

Client Enquiry Resolution:

Same day enquiry resolution and communication back to the client.

Management of clients' expectations when same day resolution is not possible.

Proactive follow up with internal BNYM departments or the client as required to achieve a resolution.

Efficient self-organisation to ensure the right priority is given to the correct task at all times.

Issue Resolution:

Quickly understand ad hoc issues arising on IT applications that affect day-to-day operational processing.

Ensure relevant teams are notified.

Act as intermediary between client (internal or external) and IT team working to resolve the issue.

Keep all parties fully informed of progress and resolution ETA.

Department Tasks:

To follow all internal BNYM or GCM procedures at all times.

To advise management on a timely basis of any issues in maintaining such procedures.

To suggest improvements whenever applicable.

Write and circulate release notes to inform all users of new system enhancements.


Professional communication skills to be employed whether by email, in writing or by telephone, either to clients or internal BNYM colleagues.

Diligent handover of communications to other service centers or colleagues where necessary.

To protect client confidentiality at all times.

Relationship Development:

To build good working relationships with the IT support teams.

Escalate all issues that cannot be resolved quickly and to the client's (internal or external) satisfaction.

Identify recurring issues and work to identify solutions in conjunction with your manager.

Attend project conference calls and offer professional input from a testing perspective.

Back up of other Project Analysts:

To backup colleagues from the IT Project team when required



At least 3 years experience within BNYM or experience in collateral management.

Varied operational experience or experience in a client contact group within operations is considered to be an asset.

Demonstrable Skills:

Language skills: fluent in English.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Good knowledge of the Bank's principal custody and collateral management systems and Lotus Notes; Microsoft Office skills are an advantage.

Ability to handle numbers and various analytical tasks.

Personal Skills:

Reliable team player with a sense of responsibility toward clients and the team.

Flexible and willing to work in shifts.

Able to develop risk management skills as experience and understanding of the GCM DMM business develops.

Self driven, capable of working independently.

Quick learner.
