There are multiple positions located in the Nuclear Engineering and Planning Department and Engineering and Planning Department at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility, Pearl Harbor, HI.

  • 0840 – Nuclear Engineer: $41,491 - $100,512

  • 0850 – Electrical Engineer / 0855 – Electronics Engineer: $41,491 - $87,311

Professional engineering bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited college or university.

A bachelor's degree with curriculum in differential and integral calculus, with additional courses in five of the following seven areas of engineering science of physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (3) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics; or electronics.

A combination of education and experience that is equivalent to a professional engineering degree - a Professional Engineering Registration to demonstrate the adequacy of education and experience.

A combination of education and experience that is equivalent to a professional engineering degree - successfully passed the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination, which demonstrates the adequacy of education and experience.

Successfully completed a degree with at least 60 semester hours of courses in physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences, and in professional engineering curriculum

Successfully completed a degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, (e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology) and have at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.

Minimum Qualifications

For the GS-05 Grade Level: Successful completion, or will complete within 9 months, a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a professional engineering degree OR a combination of Education and Experience as described above.

For the GS-07 Grade Level: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal Service or equivalent public or private sector performing engineering calculations, preparing correspondence and technical reports, and conducting engineering research. –OR-

EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION: (Within 9 months from the closing date of this announcement) One year (or at least 18 semester hours) of graduate level education that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform professional engineering work, superior academic achievement at the baccalaureate level in a professional engineering curriculum based on being in the upper third of the graduating class in the college or university attending based on courses completed, superior academic achievement at the baccalaureate level in a professional engineering curriculum based on grade-point average of 2.95 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on an official transcript or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum, superior academic achievement at the baccalaureate level in a professional engineering curriculum based on grade-point average of 3.45 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum, have election to membership in a national scholastic honor society listed by the Association of College Honor Societies, a 5-year program of study of at least 160 semester hours leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering, or have a combination of experience and education as described above the equates to one year of specialized experience.

This position has a quality ranking factor that will be used to differentiate best qualified candidates. The quality ranking factor is: Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.95 or higher out of a possible 4.0.
