OSF Healthcare ED Technician I - Emergency Svcs ( SFMC) in Peoria, Illinois
Reporting to the Patient Care Manager and according to department policies/nursing care standards, functions as a member of the Patient Care Team to provide appropriate basic care to patients based on the ages of the patients served in the Emergency Department or Prompt Care area (age newborn through adult). This includes taking vital signs, performing 12 lead EKGs and cardiac monitoring, phlebotomy, bedside lab testing, CLIA and assisting patients with activities of daily living, specimen collection including assisting with pelvic exams and foley catheterization, basic respiratory therapy, wound care, performing CPR and observing patients for physi¬cal/emotional changes. Records pertinent information in patient charts and communicates with other patient care team members to ensure continuity of care. Duties also include transporting patients on stretcher or by wheelchair to other departments, stocking supplies and housekeeping duties. The job incumbent is required to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the unit. This requires that the incumbent demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development as well as the physical, emotional and psycho-social needs of the patient population served.
Work requires ability to read, write and communicate effectively at a level generally acquired through completion of a high school education. Must hold a current CNA or EMT-B licensure in the State of Illinois.
Must obtain and maintain certifications in BLS CPR, CPI (Non-Violent Crisis Prevention and Intervention), and Decontamination Training
Work requires unit-specific orientation and on-the-job training individualized according to Clinical educator’s and preceptor’s discretion to become familiar with work routines, location of equipment and supplies, and develop proficiencies in patient care tech duties. Orientation consists of time with clinical educator, skills lab with tech educator, and approximately twelve 12 hour shifts with designated preceptor.
Work requires the interpersonal skills necessary to comfort patients, family members and/or significant others; and to communicate effectively with other patient care providers.
Work requires analytical ability necessary to prioritize work load.
