Dell Linux Systems Admin- Senior Delivery Specialist in Pewaukee, Wisconsin

Job Description:

The Linux Systems Administrator will be responsible for providing the primary management, administration, support, and ongoing maintenance of VirtuStream and CMS Customer applications and Operating systems within a 24x7x365 environment. This role must be able to understand, execute, and document moderate to complex operational tasks and work requests that are assigned and have experience in moderate to complex research and fact finding using various tools and informational sources.

The role will be expected to work in a positive and collaborative fashion with fellow team members, senior engineering/architect staff, vendors, and customers. The Systems Administrator will assist with process maturation, development, technical standards creation, and drive operational excellence through consistent delivery and best practices. This role will also include the core fundamentals of day-to-day operations, based off the ITIL v3 methodology.

  • Participate in 24x7x365 shift coverage

  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all Internal resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups Create, change, and delete user accounts per request

  • Provide support per request from various constituencies. Investigate and troubleshoot issues

  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies

  • Practical hands-on experience implementing, administrating and troubleshooting common TCP / IP based services, including NTP, DNS, SSL, SSH, services, etc

  • Perform preventative maintenance (and upgrade, as required) on Linux Operating Systems and related peripherals to meet IT specifications

  • Provides technical expertise in cross-functional and intra-departmental efforts.

  • Identify system performance issues and drive the development of tools to correct

  • Ensure that the technical environment is properly monitored and that any problems are rectified

  • Performs diagnostic testing on network systems and infrastructure problems

  • Coordinate all hardware and software problems or repairs channeled through outside vendors and service providers

  • Performs configuration, testing, and change control documentation of enterprise systems and network infrastructure platforms

  • Perform systems/software administration, backup/recovery monitoring, problem resolution, and change management

  • Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary

  • Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures

  • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning

  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required

  • Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment

  • Required 7+ years experience as a systems administrator or server engineer in a large single site or multiple site Enterprise IT or managed services organization

Critical Hiring Criteria:

Preferred skills:

  • 8+ years RHEL 5,6,7 administration experience, as well as Virtualization experience.

  • ITIL v3 Foundation preferred

  • Experience dealing with Cisco UCS a plus

Required Skills:

  • Experience with RHEL 5/6, CentOS 5/6 and SuSe 11

  • Experience with OS installation, upgrade, package management, LVM, Security auditing, Kernel configuration/tuning and Performance monitoring/tuning.

  • Very strong troubleshooting skills towards root cause analysis and practical issue resolution

  • Knowledge of protocols such as HTTP, SSL/TLS, TCP, UDP, DNS, SNMP

  • Excellent skills in scripting and automation in bash and Perl.

  • Experience with RHN Satellite / Spacewalk Linux systems management and Kickstart

  • Experience in System Administration Automation frameworks such as Puppet, Chef

  • Experience with System monitoring and logging solutions

  • Experience with Active Directory Client configuration (Centrify, Samba, Vintela) and Powerbroker / Sudo.

  • Experience with Middleware technologies such as Apache, Tomcat and Source code control repositories such SVN, GIT will be a plus

Education:

  • Bachelor degree in Information Management, Computer Science, or other related field is preferred for this position
