The VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS) and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (UPSOM) are seeking a physician-scientist BC in Geriatric Medicine to serve as Associate Chief of Staff, Geriatrics and Extended Care, VAPHS. The candidate will serve in a major leadership positon at VAPHS with responsibility for oversight of the quality and programmatic development of Geriatric clinical care, investigation and education, including the training of medical students and residents from UPSOM who rotate through VAPHS.
A candidate is sought with established track record in biologic, clinical or epidemiologic investigation of aging with active research funding who has also had experience as a clinical leader and medical educator. The position will offer extensive opportunities for fostering and participating collaborative initiatives between VAPHS and the outstanding faculty of the UPSOM and UPMC in the development of new approaches to geriatric clinical care and training and novel aging related research ranging from its basic biology to its epidemiology. The candidate must qualify for an academic appointment at the UPSOM at the Associate or full Professor level.
Work Schedule: M-F 8:00am - 4:30pm

*Basic Requirements: *
Must be proficient in written and spoken English. * Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. * Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. * Must be a U.S. Citizen.
*PRERERRED EXPERIENCE: *A board certified Geriatrician is highly preferred for this position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.
