The Lease Accounting & Analysis team is a newly formed team in Corporate Accounting that partners closely with primarily Real Estate & Facilities (RE&F) and Cloud Infrastructure worldwide supporting a broad business scope including offices, research & development facilities, retail stores, data centers, edge sites, dedicated circuits, and equipment leases. The environment is dynamic and innovated, where the Lease Accounting & Analysis team has to be flexible and deeply integrated with overall corporate accounting, corporate finance, real estate & facilities, procurement, engineering finance teams, tax, treasury and the associated businesses.

The Lease Accounting & Analysis team is looking for someone with drive, innovation, solution and results oriented to make an impact. This position reports to the Senior Director of Fixed Assets and Lease Accounting Team in Redmond. The role is responsible for accounting, processes, policies, controls and reporting for specific areas of Microsoft’s lease portfolio (i.e. office, retail stores, data centers, edge sites, circuits, vehicles and other equipment). They must be organized and demonstrate the ability to prioritize against multiple deadlines. The candidate should be highly motivated, flexible, and thrive in an ambiguous and dynamic environment. The candidate will work closely with multiple stakeholders from RE&F, RE&F Finance, Global Procurement, MCIO Finance & Accounting Corp Accounting, Treasury, and Tax as well as External Audit. The successful candidate is a person strong communication and cross-group collaboration skills, the passion to drive execution and results across the multiple teams and business partners.

Responsibilities

  • Lease accounting controllership, ensuring GAAP and Microsoft Policy compliance

  • Monthly & quarterly accounting close operations

  • Monthly & quarterly reporting and management review (including 10Q, 10K, financial reporting reviews, accounting issues)

  • Process management and workflow improvements

  • Work closely with RE&F, Corporate Finance, and Cloud Infrastructure Finance and Accounting partners to ensure appropriate controls, accounting technical guidance, and compliance with policies

  • Ongoing analyses, corporate accounting and business partner support

  • Constantly look for ways to improve efficiency and effectiveness of finance activities and reporting, for example, through automation and detailed analytics

  • Ad-hoc projects

Qualifications

  • BA / BS in Accounting or Finance

  • Minimum of 7 years of related work experience, ideally including experience in lease accounting, administration and analyses, and controls for multinational companies

  • Experience in accounting and finance relative to lease operations strong desired (greater than 3 years)

  • CPA, Big Four Public Accounting audit experience with SEC clients preferred

  • Experience presenting/communicating/interacting with senior management, and across groups

  • Advanced skills in core Office applications such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

  • Strong cross group collaboration, ability to challenge status quo and influence others

  • SAP Experience is a plus
