Your tasks and responsibilities

A corporate communications internship with the Crop Science division of Bayer is the closest thing you can get to having a real communications job. You will work with a dynamic and creative team to help tell the story of modern agriculture to the public and communicate internally to ensure employees are engaged and in the know. Our interns are full members of our team and will walk away with experience leading major projects such as our corporate responsibility programs; generating media attention through earned and social media tactics; and planning and executing events. We are looking to help develop self-starters and future leaders. More than anything, we’re looking for people who can help us tell awesome stories through great content development.

The primary responsibilities of this role, Intern Corporate Communication are to:

•Internal event management: manage calendar, consult with and support local groups and committees to ensure success, coordinate and employee volunteering initiatives; •Internal communications: Content master for RTP local area as well as supporting Internal Communications manager and other employees, managing and posting organizational announcements, weekly email to over 1000 local employees, digital signage, etc. ; •Participate in and contribute to public relations initiatives, especially to promote Bayer in the RTP/Raleigh/Durham area; •Assist with internal and external communications related to growth and investments at the RTP site; •Media tracking of Bayer Crop Science and major industry news with particular focus on news that leadership should be made aware of or that communications should share socially as part of our though leadership efforts; •Assist in update of calendaring process and lead reporting of weekly and monthly updates; •Assist in planning and execution of events and tradeshows as needed by attending planning meetings, working on logistical planning and briefing material development; •Assist in management / distribution of press releases; •Prepare documents for senior leader interviews with media by conducting research on the reporters, preparing briefing memos and talking points and sitting in on interviews where applicable; •Become proficient with PR Newswire system and capabilities; •Develop content to share socially based on on-going events; •Take on other projects as opportunities arise!

Required qualifications: Your success will be driven by your demonstration of our LIFE values. More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

•Current student majoring in communications, journalism, public relations, advertising, marketing or other creative field; •Previous experience working in a team-based office setting - preferably in a communications function - with a strong instinct for engaging and delivering messages to intended audiences; •Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills; •Experience with a broad spectrum of communications tools including print, online, interactive, video, podcasts, social media and more; •Proficiency in all MS Office programs, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and graphic design programs, web publishing, etc. and ability to adapt to and learn new software programs/systems; •Ability to work independently as well as a strong member of multiple teams; •Possess initiative, creativity, and a high-degree of attention to detail; self-motivated; •Ability to manage multiple projects with competing demands and under tight deadlines; •Having a positive, professional and flexible attitude is a must!
