Job DescriptionTechnical Writer : Contract to hire! Position: Technical WriterLocation: RochesterKey Duties/Responsibilities:The Technical Writer will research, write, edit, and proofread technical data for use in a variety of technical documents including operator manuals, work instructions, engineering reports, and training materials. Responsibilities/activities for this position include: Researching highly technical information via engineering coordination notifications, engineering drawings, subject matter expert interviews, engineering drawings, and data mining to become familiar with product technologies and production methods Synthesizing and translating technical details into terms understandable by non-engineers Creating documents such as work instructions, engineering coordination memos, and training materials Editing, standardizing, changing material prepared by other writers or establishment personnel to comply with quality standards and other company templates Proofreading finished documents for accuracy, quality of deliverables, and compliance with project requirements Selecting/creating photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material Coordinating the release of documents through the configuration management cycle Develop location-specific documentation work-flow for incoming work from remote facilities Maintain the information architecture within the configuration management tool Initiate translation activities with sub-contractors when as required May act as a lead writer/editor for large and/or complex assignmentsPosition Competencies:Skills: Superior written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills Flexible, able to work well under pressure and fluctuating priorities An ambassador of collaboration (within and across the organization)- Functional familiarity with WindChill Experience with tools for graphics and productivity, such as Visio, Illustrator, SnagIt, and Microsoft Office Understand how a document needs to be indexed in order for other to easily finds answers A qualified candidate must be able to work in both a group and an individual setting Understanding of the engineering development lifecycle Ability to understand, and interpret engineering drawings Technically curious and self-motivated to understand product functionality.Knowledge: BS or MS degree in Communications, English, or related discipline area Minimum 3 years of experience as a Technical Writer.History of on-time, quality delivery in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment Experience developing technical documents, procedures, and manuals for engineering products Strong experience with Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project) Knowledge and familiarity with CAD software - SolidWorks & AutoCAD Experience managing international language translation of documentation Knowledge of weaving and/or resin transfer molding is a plus Knowledge of ERP and supply chain software is a plus Knowledge of XML, HTML, and CSS is a plusAbilities:o Safetyo Accountabilityo Fact-Based Decision Makingo Ethical Behavioro Persistenceo Respect- Ability to prioritize while taking direction from Team Lead and/or Management.- Ability to take something that is complex and condense it down to something that is more manageable and understandable- Ability to quickly learn, analyze, understand, and communicate complex technical concepts in a clear and concise manner.- Ability to work on multiple projects in parallel - Ability to ask penetrating questions while advocating for user needs.- Ability to deliver high quality documentation paying attention to detailApply today to join a cutting edge team!
