Lifetime Care Psychiatric Clinical Specialist - Registered Nurse in Rochester, New York

Description The Psychiatric Clinical Specialist- is responsible for participating in the development, implementation, and evaluation of Psychiatric programs, and staff education in the care of Psychiatric patients at Lifetime Care. .. Also provides clinical nursing leadership in area of specialty to LTC professional staff.

Essential Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Participates in the development and maintenance of current operational policies and procedures related to Psychiatric programs.

  • Participates in the selection of nursing specialty candidates for employment as Psychiatric nursing specialists.

  • Assumes major responsibility for development and implementation of orientation, education, and training activities for agency regarding Psychiatric program areas assigned.

  • Collaborates with the Quality Management staff to design, monitor, and evaluate the continuous quality improvement process, and risk management components of the clinical program. Identifies and designs research projects based on data generated from the continuous quality improvement program and clinical observations.

  • Educates the PHV and health team members about technical, cognitive, and clinical developments emerging for the Psychiatric home care patient .

  • Act as liaison with the medical community at large regarding LTC Psychiatric Nursing programs.

  • Perform direct care and documentation for select patients and caregivers that require specialist expertise and meets specified productivity.

  • Maintains current clinical knowledge in areas of Psychiatric Nursing

  • Manages and coordinates patient care for clinically complex psychiatric diagnoses as needed.

  • Participates on agency committees that are assigned.

  • Manage and evaluate the care deficit in complex cases.

  • Consult with staff and clients on ethical issues related to treatment and self-determinism.

  • Participates in the development of multidisciplinary and interorganizational plans of service for individual patients upon request of the SCHN and when barriers to access and utilization are detected.

  • Consults with Supervisory staff in order to provide appropriate Psychiatric patient assignment to the Psychiatric team.

  • Regular and reliable attendance is expected and required.

Level II - Performs similar functions as level I, plus:

  • Performs as an informal leader, role model, and resource to other staff in a positive clinical leadership role.

Requirements Level I

  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing and a valid NYS registered nursing license required.

  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing or two years of home care nursing experience required.

  • A minimum of two years’ acute care experience desirable.

  • IV/Infusion Skills may be required.

  • Specialized clinical experience and skills may be required for certain team positions.

  • Must demonstrate solid interpersonal, organizational and time management skills.

  • Basic computer skills are necessary, including but not limited to the ability to navigate on a personal computer within a Windows based operating environment; the ability to access and create basic e-mail messages; and the ability to open, edit, and save basic electronic documents if necessary.

  • With training provided, must demonstrate the ability to learn and utilize new systems, computer applications and operating environments as necessary.

  • Must have ability to travel.

Level II – requires similar qualifications as level I, plus:

  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
