OSF Healthcare Network and Low Voltage Wiring Specialist II- Rockford in Rockford, Illinois
Under general supervision, a Network and Low Voltage Wiring Specialist II performs a variety of tasks related to the installation and decommissioning of network and low voltage wiring. This position will be responsible for executing the tasks related to the implementation of structured cabling solutions. This role will assist with process improvement, scheduling, inventory levels, standardization, and overall efficiencies of the network and low voltage wiring team where needed. Primarily responsible under guidance of Low Voltage Wiring Specialist III for implementation, installation, training, maintenance, and support of low voltage wiring projects. This position will be assisted by and will provide mentorship and training to Level I Low Voltage Wiring Specialists. The Low Voltage Wiring Specialist II will be responsible for the day to day coordination with the facilities and work units to maximize the productivity of the team while minimizing the disruption in areas that will be affected. Organizational, communication, and documentation skills are required for this position. The work to be performed includes all components for data or voice communications using various kinds of cable, most commonly category 5 (CAT5e) and category 6 (CAT6a), patch panels, and modular connectors. The position also includes the testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of completed wiring installations. The Low Voltage Wiring Specialist II will develop and follow instructions regarding wire paths, endpoint terminations, penetrations, and documentation. Additional duties include advising team members and leadership of any changes to the scope of the project and any issues that arise on the job. This position works with the assistance of other skilled tradespersons in the completion of complex tasks that relate to the overall structured cabling project.
The level of education required in order to support structured cabling projects is generally acquired through completion of a High School diploma or GED equivalent.
2 or more years of progressively more responsible work experience in fields related to networking, maintenance, construction, and/or a skilled trade.
Good written and oral communication skills necessary to communicate effectively with user departments when executing projects, and in training other Low Voltage Wiring Specialists.
Good organizational skills necessary to maintain an efficient and safe work environment for the team and the facility affected.
Ability to read blueprints and other construction related documentation.
Knowledge and adherence to relevant Infection Control policies and procedures, as well as all applicable building, fire, and life safety codes.
Ability to support all locations throughout the ministry, including those requirements that are specific to each location.
