BAE Systems Senior Systems Engineering Architect in Rockville, Maryland

BAE Systems is searching for a highly experienced Senior Systems Engineering Architect/Modeler to support our US Navy Strategic Systems Program contract providing systems engineering sustainment and systems integration services for the Ohio Class SSBN Trident II (D5) Fleet Ballistic Missile Strategic Weapon System (SWS), Attack Weapon System (AWS), Integrated Nuclear Weapons Security System (INWSS), and the Ohio Class SSBN Replacement (SSBN-R) Program. The position is located in Rockville, MD.

The Systems Engineering Architect's cross-functional role includes technical solution development. He/she maintains positive on-going relationships to determine, influence and meet evolving customer needs. Excellent relationship building, negotiating, writing, solution development and technical architecture skills have proven to be successful in this role. Essential responsibilities are to work directly with customer and partner contractors to develop an understanding of weapon system modeling requirements and develop Strategic Weapon Systems solutions, as well as evaluate and assess existing system engineering architecture models and products to determine if they meet the requirements. The successful candidate will work effectively across functions with other product team employees in developing architecture products and interfacing with modeling and simulation tools.

The candidate will:

  • Design, develop, document and analyze overall architecture of systems, including hardware and software.

  • Determine integrated hardware and software architecture solutions that meet performance, usability, scalability, reliability, and security needs.

  • Coordinate design and integration of total System of Systems solutions (including subsystems).

  • Research and recommend technology to improve the current systems.

  • Participate in planning for and implementation of Model-Based Systems Engineering concepts, practices and applications.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technology standards, industry trends, emerging technologies

  • Have direct impact on creation of technical products.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree and 12 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

Required Education: BS or MS in Computer Science, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Physics or related field. BS degree with 12+yrs (or MS degree with 10+ yrs) of progressive experience in the application of modeling and simulation to systems integration and analysis of military hardware and software systems/processes.

Technical experience in: Modeling & simulation tools in a System of Systems environment

Technical experience in diagraming: Function Flow Block Diagrams; Entity Relationship Diagrams; Activity, State, Sequence Diagrams

Knowledge of architecture frameworks, such asZachman, TOGAF, FEAF, C4ISR, DoDAF (specifically used in this application)

Knowledge of system architecture elements (subsystems, interfaces, HW/SW dependencies).

Knowledge in graphical modeling languages SysML, UML

Knowledge of Systems Engineering methodology: - OOSEM

Knowledge in data modeling standards UPDM

Excellent cognitive, communications, and interpersonal skills.

Eligibility and ability to successfully obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.

Preferred Skills and Education

Active DoD Secret security clearance

MS Computer Science, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Physics or related field.

SSBN platform experience (US Ohio / UK Vanguard)

Model-Based Systems Engineering coursework and related toolsets (MagicDraw, Simulink, DOORS, etc.)
