Position Summary: 1. Demonstrate advanced knowledge and expertise in the care of patients. • Facilitate the improvement of clinical practice through the use of clinical expertise, education of staff, consultation, committee involvement, and role modeling. • Demonstrate awareness of the needs of the patient population of their specialty. • Collaborate with health care team to facilitate continuity of patient care. 2. Demonstrate advanced educational/teaching skills in the use of the teaching/learning process. • Identify educational needs and plan for the education of staff as related to medical/surgical care. • Coordinate the development of appropriate ;materials to facilitate the education of staff and/or patients. • Plan, develop, present, and evaluate educational programs as related to medical/surgical care. • Provide for the dissemination of current information and theories necessary for the advancement of patient care. • Collaborate with the Learning Center in program development, equipment needs, and other areas as appropriate. 3. Use advanced skills of consultation and identification of change to facilitate process. • Collaborate with staff, management and other disciplines to diagnose problems and apply appropriate interventions to facilitate the change process. • Promote and support the change process. • Provide recommendations related to problem identification and proposed resolutions. • Interpret and model the role of nursing to staff, physicians, patients, and other disciplines. • Act as patients advocate within the consultation role. 4. Decrease staff turnover. • Determine barriers to organization and delivery of patient care. • Develop and promote activities, which improve staff, patient and physician satisfaction, communication and reporting methods, and clinical practice. 5. Assess, address and report on the following areas as appropriate: • Retention issues. • Equipment and supply issues. • Develop strategies to improve the organization/prioritization/time management in the delivery of patient care. • Improve preceptor/mentoring programs. • Ongoing assessment/development of education needs and programs. • Maintain and update staff records/files/education/competency files. • Participate in staff meetings. • Develop and present classes, special programs, in-services and seminars to improve staff knowledge/critical thinking skills/competencies. • Develop strategies for improving morale of staff. 6. Recruitment of Medical/Surgical Staff. • Recruitment through participation with HR and partnership committees. • Participate in recruitment fairs and programs. • Participate in the hiring and interviewing process. • Collaborate with management in mentoring/precepting of new nursing personnel. • Must be able to improve, develop, and modify medical/surgical orientation process. • Work directly with new employees during orientation process in the clinical setting. • Provide constructive feedback to staff, preceptors, managers, assistant director, and director as appropriate. • Monitor/shadow new employees progress by making adjustments and changes in the orientation process as needed. • Participates in Graduate Nurse Internship Program as needed. 7. Department Coverage. • Will be responsible for committee attendance as appropriate. • Will participate in scheduling issues/staff needs. • Will be included in staffing plan for each area as needed. 8. Fiscal/Financial Responsibilities. • Maintain financial records/data related to job activities, duties, and program development. • Provide information and/or data in the budgetary process. • Meet productivity/budgetary constraints. 9. Evaluation participation. • Provide feedback to Assistant Director/Unit Managers to assist with evaluation of medical/surgical staff. • Collaborate with Assistant Director/Unit Managers in counseling/disciplinary process of medical/surgical staff as appropriate. 10. Education • Provide competency development. • Develop education programs for medical/surgical staff. • Present reports and in-services. • Provide annual mandatory education for medical/surgical staff. 11. Education/Experience: Required:
Bachelor of Nursing; 2 years of recent acute care RN experience. must be clinically competent; must possess excellent communication, problem solving and leadership skills; must be able to work autonomously and have computer skills in Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Preferred: Master of Nursing

Texas RN license; BCLS Instructor Certification
