The VA Salt Lake City Health Care System (VASLCHCS) is made up of compassionate employees committed to caring for Veterans whose sacrifices know no limit. We are part of the Rocky Mountain Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN 19). Our health care system consists of the George E. Wahlen Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, and nine community clinics across Utah, Idaho, and Nevada. We provide health care to over 50,000 eligible Veterans across one of the largest geographical areas in VA. We are a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, holistic medicine as well as education and research in partnership with the University of Utah and other institutions of higher education. Comprehensive health care is provided through our primary care providers and tertiary care is offered in areas of medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, and geriatrics.

The Chief, Laboratory & Pathology Service, will be a board certified in Pathology unless otherwise authorized by VA Central Office.
It is emphasized that the Chief has the authority and responsibility for the clinical management of Laboratory and Pathology services. The proposed physician service chief must be employed at least six-eighths time.
The Chief, Laboratory and Pathology is responsible for:
(a) The establishment of service goals, (b) The planning and implementation of programs within the policies and procedures of VHA (Veterans' Health Administration),
The position entails coverage of anatomic pathology, including surgical pathology grossing and sign-out, and supervision of 1st year residents on the autopsy service.
Clinical pathology duties include overseeing eh blood bank/transfusion service and providing technical assistance as needed, as well as leadership of the transfusion committee. Oversight of the clinical chemistry laboratory, and providing technical assistance when needed.
Administrative duties include supervision of pathologists, administrative officer and lab manager. Attends all needed administrative meetings as detailed below and presents laboratory information when scheduled.

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

Board Certification in Anatomic/Clinical Pathology; AND
4-5 years of demonstrated experience in Clinical Leadership; AND
5+ years of prior clinical experience in Lab/Pathology; AND
Eligible for faculty appointment
