Group Mission and Vision

SAP's Corporate Strategy Group (CSG) is responsible for shaping SAP strategy and identifying the growth engines that will drive significant value creation for SAP, including technology and product portfolio, Go-To-Market execution, and M&A strategy. The team focuses on answering questions that impact SAP’s mid/long-term strategic direction as well as short term priority objectives for the CEO and the SAP Board in a fact-based, objective manner that is laser focused on organizational impact.

Recently the group also expanded its scope to drive internal and external incubation efforts under the umbrella of Specifically the team is focusing on driving external startup engagement including early stage investments in startups and driving startup acceleration within SAP accelerators/incubators.

Role Description

The Director of Cloud Strategy will drive market assessment, analysis, project management and recommendations for SAP Technology and Platform Strategy initiatives. These include product, technology, M&A, Go-to-market, and partner strategy for various such as Cloud Platform, Big Data, Machine Learning, Cybersecurity, and more.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Independently lead CSG team engagement with senior executives on strategic topics

  • Drive strategic projects by providing structured decision making backed by strong hypotheses

  • Conduct in-depth analysis and synthesize information into creative business insights and recommendations

  • Incorporate multiple, differing perspectives into high quality deliverables

  • Analyze market trends and engage with innovative startups to evaluate relevant disruptive technologies

  • Work closely with the Chief Strategy Officer on select topics

  • Drive external facing “Thought leadership” whitepapers for Platform and Technology topics

  • Drive execution of strategy by working closely with Senior Business leaders in an on-going engagement model to ensure last mile execution

  • Work with MD of to evaluate seed investments in Cloud Platform and New Innovation areas

Experience & Skill Requirements

The candidate should demonstrate the following abilities:

  • Proven, distinctive problem solving and analytical skills

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively (including leading virtual teams)

  • Superior Excel modeling skills and proficient PowerPoint skills

  • Outstanding senior executive communication and presentation skills

  • Ability to engage and represent SAP with external stakeholders (including customers, partners, industry thought leaders and analysts)

  • Ability to drive multiple strategic initiatives at the same time

  • Passion for the technology industry and a solid understanding of the key trends in the markets SAP operates in (e.g., enterprise software, cloud computing, big data, digitization)

  • BA/BS degree with top-class academics; Graduate degree from a leading business school preferred

  • Technical background in software development and Engineering / Computer Science degrees are preferred

The candidate will have at least 10 years of professional experience with significant experience in the High Tech Industry. The candidate will also have 4 years of work experience in blue-chip management consulting, with 2 years as a Project lead / Senior Engagement Manager. Candidates with exceptional backgrounds will be preferred (e.g., successful entrepreneurs/founders, other advanced degrees including Doctorates)
