Primary Job Responsibilities:

PayPal’s Data Finance Transformation team owns the data and web platform that powers Companywide short and long term analytics, predictive forecasting and reporting processes.The transformation team partners with Engineering, Finance, Risk Management, Payment Platform and Data Technology teams to build state of the art back-end and front-end data and analytics platforms that deliver capabilities for undertaking business performance analysis, automated trend detection, assessment of scenario based financial outcomes and organization’s financial performance.RESPONSIBILITIES:•Provide technical leadership and contribute to the definition, development, integration, test, documentation, and support across multiple platforms (Unix, Python, Hadoop, Teradata utilities)•In this role you are expected be an expert in building scalable systems, to lead technical discussions, participate in code reviews, guide the team in engineering best practices. Ability to write quality code and build secure, highly available systems is greatly desired•Establish a consistent, project management framework and excellent development processes to deliver high quality software, in rapid iterations, for business partners in multiple geographies. Act as a liaison between teams in San Jose and Chennai•Manage a team that designs, develops, troubleshoots and debugs software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.•Interview and hire qualified developers, striving to improve bench strength and augmenting project teams with contract staff when required•Effectively lead teams providing appropriate direction and developmental feedback, conducting annual reviews and participating in compensation decisions•Eat, sleep, and breathe services. You have experience balancing production platform stability, feature delivery, and retirement of technical debt across complex technology stacks

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering or equivalent is desired. Master’s degree is preferred
  • 12+ years of post-college working experience as a developer and architect in Engineering, or Data-Mining organization
  • 10+ years of experience with full life-cycle development in Data Warehousing and Data Integration projects using Teradata and Big Data. Teradata SQL masters certification is required.
  • 6+ years Linux/Unix/Perl experience, including scripting and version control with working knowledge of Teradata utilities : FastExport, BTEQ, FastLoad and MLoad
  • 5+ years of Python development experience is required
  • 3+ years of HTML, Java/Javascript and CSS experience is required
  • 5+ years of Hadoop Hive / Pig experience is required
  • 2+ years of SPARK experience is required
  • Proven experience in leading and mentoring Engineering teams is requirements
  • Expertise in data research/analysis with a focus on data quality and consistency is required
  • Strong conceptual and creative problem-solving skills; ability to work with considerable ambiguity; ability to learn new and complex concepts quickly. Relentlessly resourceful and scrappy
  • A great communicator, strong project management skills, and superb attention to details
