FORMER FEDERAL EMPLOYEES:Former Federal Employees are required to indicate whether they received a Voluntary Separation Incentive Payment (VSIP) buyout in their previous employment with the Federal government, and are required to submit a copy of the applicable Notification of Personnel Action (SF-50) regarding the VSIP. The majority of individuals, who accept reemployment with the Federal government within 5 years of receiving the VSIP amount, must repay the gross amount of the separation pay prior to reemployment.
NOTE: This is a supervisory position. Under provision of the Civil Service Reform Act, first-time supervisors are required to serve a trial period before their appointment becomes final. Those who do not satisfactorily complete the trial period will be returned to positions of no lower grade and pay then those they occupied before assuming their supervisory assignment.
*SUMMARY OF DUTIES: *
- Administers a comprehensive social service program designed to meet the needs of individuals, families and groups that include, but are no limited to General Assistance, Miscellaneous Assistance, Child Welfare Assistance, Child Welfare, Social Services to families.
- Responsible for the administration, development, execution and evaluation of the social work program.
- Provides expertise to tribal officials, tribal courts, community agencies, and others by preparing case progress reports.
- Serves as an Awarding Official's Technical Representative (AOTR) for social services Public Law 93-638 contracts and Title 11 Indian Child Welfare grants.
- Responsible for administering the Agency Individual Indian Monies program for supervised and minor accounts.
- Occasional Travel
- Occasional travel for work assignments, meetings and/or training.
- TRAVEL AND RELOCATION EXPENSES WILL BE AUTHORIZED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE FEDERAL TRAVEL REGULATIONS.
- US CITIZENSHIP REQUIRED.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for Professional and Scientific Positions and Individual Occupational Requirements for GS-0185: Social Work Series).
GS-12: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level that demonstrated work experience providing: (1) a wide variety of duties involving a broad range of the social services program to the detail of administrative responsibilities; (2) making independent professional decisions and recommendations such as in separating members of families, approving adoptive parents and placement of children, placing delinquents in protective custody, recommending placement of a patient in a nursing rather than return to his/her own family, etc.; (3) responsibility which included reaching independent conclusions as to appropriate action when consequences to the client are serious and results are relatively unpredictable; (4) responsibility for independently giving interpretations of case histories to judges of courts and members of boards, for presenting case studies at conference of staff teams; and (5) coordination of various committees related to child abuse with other government agencies, i.e., federal, state, tribal, etc., to establish child protection teams, multi-disciplinary teams, and case coordination on investigation.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and is typically in or related to the position to be filled.

Qualifying education from colleges and universities in foreign countries must be evaluated in terms of equivalency to that acquired in U.S. colleges and universities. Applicants educated in whole or in part in foreign countries must submit sufficient evidence, including transcripts, to an accredited private organization for an equivalency evaluation of course work and degree. You must provide a copy of the letter containing the results of the equivalency evaluation upon request. Failure to provide such documentation when requested will result in lost consideration.

SUITABILITY, CLEARANCE & REQUIREMENTS: A background security investigation will be required for all new hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicants successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.
OTHER: Incumbent is required, as an incidental duty, to operate a government-owned or leased motor vehicle, in the performance of duties; therefore, a valid drivers license is required. Incumbent must have a safe driving record within the three-year period immediately preceding submittal of GSA Form 3607 and be able to meet the safe driving requirements of the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
