The Ralph H Johnson VAMC Charleston is recruiting for 1(one) full-time position for a Physician (MD/DO) in the Primary Care Service Line's Savannah Community Based Outpatient Clinic. The successful candidate possesses excellent medical and communication skills and will function as Patient Aligned Care Team Leader. With over 250 days of sunshine per year, Savannah is located in one of the most desirable geographic areas of the United States. Founded in 1733, the city grew quickly to become a major center for agriculture, industry and military installations. Its rich history provides a cosmopolitan lifestyle and excellent recreational opportunities such as quick access to the Atlantic Ocean and first-class shopping and dining experiences. Drive 20 minutes east of Savannah through a few miles of wide sky and salt marches, and you will find Tybee Island with its landmark lighthouse, Fort Screven historic district and a myriad of recreational opportunities.
The Savannah Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) cares for over 10,000 Veterans and operates within the Primary Care Service Line located at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center. The clinics are staffed by a total of 12 Primary Care teams organized according to the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model that represents the Patient Centered Medical Home principle. The clinic currently offers radiology, mental health, physical therapy, dietary, podiatry, optometry and social work support services.
At the beginning of October 2016, the clinic is moving into a new, state-of-the-art 54,000 sqf. ambulatory care facility that will offer expanded imaging capabilities including on-site Computed Tomography (CT) as well as additional specialty care coverage. As the parent facility, the RH Johnson VAMC in Charleston offers the full range of specialty care services according to its designation as a 1b VAMC.
The Primary Care physician position offers a Monday-Friday outpatient clinic setting with work assignment for extended clinic hours according to VHA Directive 2013-001. The physician will function as the leader of his/her Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT). The successful candidate will have a high level of medical knowledge and possesses all the qualities for providing comprehensive and compassionate primary care services for "those who served". The position calls for excellent interpersonal and leadership skills and offers input into projects pertaining to the development of the clinic. It is designed for a long-term and full-time professional relationship with the Primary Care Service Line at the RH Johnson VAMC Charleston.

The Physician will be responsible for providing comprehensive primary care services to a defined panel of patients. This includes history taking, physical examination, ordering of laboratories and diagnostic studies, diagnosis, and formulation of treatment plans for acute and chronic conditions within the scope of Internal Medicine or Family Medicine practice. He/she will document all medical information in an electronic medical record. Treatment will include prescription of medications within the guidelines of the VA formulary referral to specialty care services as appropriate, admission to hospital care when indicated, patient education and counseling. You are expected to practice in accordance within accepted professional standards, organizational values, and with a commitment to excellent customer service.

- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Completion of residency training or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
