Responding to child abuse and neglect involves protecting children from harm and supporting families to reduce the risk of future harm to children.

When an Intake Specialist receives reports from professionals and concerned citizens alerting them to concerns about a child's welfare, they may initiate an investigation to determine if a child has been or is at risk of being harmed. Staff may also assess the child's and family's needs or engage in other interventions to support the family's efforts to provide a safe, nurturing environment for their children.

Children's Administrationis looking for a dynamic, motivated and culturally competent Social Service Specialist with the Office of Central Intake located in downtown Seattle, Washington.

You'll provide intake services for:

Division of Children and Family Services (DCFS) *Child Protective Services (CPS) *Child and Family Welfare Services (CFWS) *Family Reconciliation Services (FRS)

Division of Licensed Resources (DLR) *DLR/CPS allegations *Licensing Complaints

Crisis call management for End Harm line *Adult Protective Services (APS) *Assistance to callers inquiring about Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS)

Crisis call management for Foster Parent and Caregiver Support Line *Caregiver support *Child pick-up request *Business/Licensing concerns

Some of the major duties you'll be doing are:

  • Interviewing and documenting information
  • Evaluating complaint information and determines degree of risk
  • Obtaining additional pertinent information to assist in assessing risk and determining screening decisions.
  • Consulting with supervisor on all intakes regarding children needing emergent response due to current threat of danger and risk of imminent harm.

Here's what we're looking for:

One year as a Social Service Specialist 2 or A Bachelor's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences or an allied field and three years of paid social service experience or A Master's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences or a related field and one year of paid social service experience (a practicum will be substituted for the one year of paid social service experience).
