Positions are located in the Food & Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER), Office of Pharmaceutical Quality (OPQ), located in Silver Spring, Maryland.

This is a TERM appointment Not to Exceed 2 years.
This TERM appointment does not provide a permanent career-conditional appointment or reemployment right to a previous permanent appointment held. TERM appointments do not provide status in the competitive service.
NOTE: The agency has the option of extending a term appointment up to the 4-year limit.

As a Chemist, you will:
- Conduct quality assessment for drug applications, such as the design, control, and quality standards for drug substances/products proposed by the applicants, following established regulations, policies, guidance and/or quality standards.
- Serve as a regulatory review scientist.
- Provide science- and risk-based regulatory recommendations regarding the approvability of drug applications.
- Draft quality assessment documents to support recommendations related to drug applications.
- Work with other disciplinary experts/scientists during the quality assessment of new drug applications.

Basic Qualification Requirements for GS-1320, Chemist:
A. Possess a degree in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.
B. Possess a combination of education and experience--course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 hours of chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to the Basic Qualification Requirements you must also meet the following:
For the GS-12
*Have one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 in the federal service. *Such experience includes experience in designing and developing drug substances/products, and related control strategies and quality standards; performing scientific analyses and testing; interpreting and evaluating the results of the analysis; preparing scientific reports documenting the performed analysis.
For the GS-13
*Have one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-12 in the federal service. *Such experience includes independently designing and developing drug substances/products, and related control strategies and quality standards; performing scientific analyses and testing; interpreting and evaluating the results of the analysis; determining whether analytical methods are suitable for regulatory purposes; and preparing scientific reports documenting the performed analysis with minimal supervisory input.
