ORGANIZATIONAL LOCATION:This position is located in the Business Office of the Woodrow Wilson Keeble Memorial Health Care Center (WWKMHCC) in Sisseton, SD. The primary purpose of this position is to perform the posting of payments and adjustments to the account receivable in the Patient Accounts section.

  • Responsible for the posting of all payments and adjustment related to and in conjunction with posting of payments in accordance with facility policy and procedures.
  • Monitors accounts balances, reviews posting to ensure accuracy and recommend appropriate corrective action. Examination for accuracy of claims and other request for payment for (1) services provided by the Government; (2) reimbursement of expenditures made by beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries for such purposes as medical care and treatment.
  • Prepares weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reconciliation and recapitulation of third party billing to assure that collections, billed data, and the computerized and manual reports are in balance.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): GS-4:One (1) year general experience; OR, Education: Two (2) years above high school. GS-5:One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level OR four years above high school. GS-6:One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE DEFINED FOR THE GS-05 with modest:Experience in maintaining accounts by reviewing documents to verify accounting data as necessary, entering data into the system. Experience in reviewing and examining various bill types, of patient care to third party payers and performs third party collections posting to the automated accounts receivable program. Experience in auditing documents received for completeness and accuracy. Experience in receiving and reviewing all explanation of benefits and remittance from third party payers. Knowledge of ICD-CM and CPT/HCPCS coding terms. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE DEFINED FOR THE GS-06: Same as the GS-5 level but with little or no supervision. Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which annual leave is earned.
