Scottrade Senior Database Developer - St. Louis, MO or Westminster, CO in St. Louis, United States


The main purpose of this position is to provide technical expertise on complex projects and tasks as well as devise or modifies existing applications to improve performance and scalability.


• Develop new products / support of applications already in production.

• Promote pre-defined programming standards set by Database Architects.

• Develop recommendations regarding further definition of development standards and application architecture principles.

• Provide leadership and training to new team members, and recommend training requirements of team.

• Participate in creating project and technical documentation including policies, procedures, and standards.

• Perform unit testing and assists in user testing of programming modifications.

• Maintain technical knowledge through training or other measures.

• Address system problems during off hours with the guidance from other members of the development staff as needed.

• Provide technical estimates.

• Translate high-level requirements into detailed technical designs, and lead design sessions and code walk-throughs.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Intermediate level proficiency with source control systems such as Visual Source Safe (VSS), Concurrent Version Systems (CVS) or Team Foundation Server (TFS).

• Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

• Intermediate level proficiency with Windows operating systems.

• Advanced level proficiency with Windows, Linux, Unix and/or iSeries.

• Advanced level proficiency with index tuning and query optimization.

• Advanced level proficiency with SQL databases.

• Advanced level proficiency with index tuning and query optimization.

• Advanced level proficiency designing and documenting relational databases.

• Intermediate level proficiency Enterprise information integration preferred.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, talk, hear, and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls.

• The physical requirements of this position are considered to be sedentary work (Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.).

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less in order to view a computer screen).

• The noise level in the work environment is considered moderate (business office with co-workers, copiers, shredders, printers, etc).


• Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

• 7+ years database development and/or DBA experience required.

• 7+ years experience with SQL, Transactional SQL, Stored Procedures, RDBMS required.

• 7+ years experience with SQL Server or DB2 or Oracle required.

• 7+ years experience with ETL tools such as DTS or SSIS (SSIS Preferred).

• Experience as a Database Developer in an Application Development environment required.


• Contacts with other persons within the department on routine matters as well as regular contact with other departments, or outside the organization furnishing or obtaining factual data requiring ordinary courtesy and tact. May need to regularly utilize specialized communication skills in order to maintain goodwill with internal and external contacts.
