Maintenance Machinist

Position Summary:

  • Performs bench and manufacturing floor work as assigned.

  • Works from prints, sketches and samples to layout and machine new and replacement parts and install ancillary equipment.

  • Troubleshoots and devises solutions for repair of mechanical malfunctions

  • Maintains, repairs and adjust plant equipment to support continuous operations.

  • Perform Preventive Maintenance on machines, equipment and plant facilities.

  • Prepares and submits documentation of completed repairs and other work.

  • Keep working area and Maintenance shop clean, orderly and safe.

  • Assist others as necessary to support plant operations.

  • Complies with all applicable safety and environmental requirements.

  • Adheres to ISO procedures in conformance with quality systems and standards


10 years experience in machine shop operations (e.g. Cutting, Shearing, Drilling, Assembling, fabricating, fastening, and welding) of metallic - aluminum, carbon steel and stainless steel - and non-metallic materials; Preparation for and application of protective coatings. Experience interpreting and working from standard "finished" drawings, engineering design sketches, rough concept diagrams, etc. Experience in field installations and repairs at sea, and remote fixed sites. Ability to work independently, with no direct supervision. Good communications skills and the ability to represent NDBC in the field.

Degree Requirement:

HS, with vo-tech school diploma
