Director, IO Training & Education

The Director Industrial Operations Training and Education, develops, directs and leads the site GXP training, Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) and other assigned training functions and is responsible for the Training Quality System including: creation and implementation of programs for the purpose of ensuring regulatory compliance, business objective achievement and strategic plan performance.

The incumbent will build and sustain a high performance training and education team which ensuresstrong alignment and coordination with all IO functional groups in Swiftwater, Rockville, and Canton. The Director IO Training and Education collaborates with training leaders at other Sanofi sites and the Corporate Learning and Development organization to develop training and education strategies to continuously improve effectiveness, standardize and harmonize processes of the strategies and their implementation.

This role has direct reporting responsibility to the Senior Director Industrial Performance and has a dotted-line reporting relationship with AVP Site Quality Head. The incumbent will have significant engagement with site management and participation in site-level meetings as well as meetings with learning and development leaders.

Key accountabilities

Design and Development (20%)

  • Design, implement and manage a short and long term training and education strategies for Industrial Operations Swiftwater, Canton, and Rockville that supports and contributes to Industrial Operations overall strategy and objectives.

  • Develop, implement and lead site training system and procedure to assure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.

  • Develop and implement a standardized competency-based site Technical Training Program, working in conjunction with functional leaders, subject matter experts and training specialists.

  • Develop multi-faceted delivery programs to utilize varied learning abilities within the workforce

Implementation of Programs (20%)

  • Implement and administer cGMP, HSE and other assigned training programs. Ensure ongoing education programs are developed and delivered to all employees.

  • Support the development and delivery of Sanofi Pasteur Global Education Programs by providing subject matter expertise and logistic coordination.

Collaboration (20%)

  • Lead IO Training Committee with representatives from across IO that will be involved with identifying training needs and establishing priorities.

  • Partner with supervisors and managers to develop and assure curricula are in place for all employees.

  • Work with training leaders at other Sanofi sites, the Corporate Learning and Development organization, Sanofi LEAN Academy, and Sanofi Pasteur Quality Academy to develop training and education strategies to continuously improve training effectiveness, standardize and harmonize processes, design and develop network-wide competencies and capabilities to align with Sanofi and Sanofi Pasteur strategy and global best practices are subsequently utilized at the site.

  • Work closely with Human Resource positions responsible for Organizational Development and Learning to ensure coordinated, consistent and effective learning and training strategy.

  • Liaise with other positions with training responsibilities inside and outside Industrial Operations to collaborate and ensure alignment of programs and optimal communication and implementation across Industrial Operations.

Documentation and Training Effectiveness (20%)

  • Identify learning and training gaps and areas of weakness and advise the senior leadership team on solutions.

  • Develop & implement measurement criteria, to assess effectiveness of training and learning, and report compliance metrics to both site and divisional levels.

  • Ensure documentation practices and systems are in place to monitor and maintain training requirements, history and qualifications.

  • Analyze training and education needs across Industrial Operations Swiftwater and work with IO leadership to determine appropriate training budget.

  • Audit individual training plans as required by corporate KPI’s. Establish departmental and individual goals and objectives in alignment with site goals and priorities. Identify performance improvement targets and metrics. Ensure capabilities and capacity in place to effectively deliver on all departmental commitments and performance targets.

People Management and Development (20%)

  • Develop and implement quality standards (or trainer qualification requirements) for internal and external trainers and teachers. Manage internal and external training providers to ensure quality standards are met.

  • Manage headcount and expenses in area of responsibility to meet approved spending plan while achieving all departmental commitments and project objectives.

  • Ensure effective utilization of resources by ensuring robust employee development, performance management, succession planning, and rewards and recognitions practices in area of responsibility.

  • Motivate, retain and develop employees. Build and sustain employee engagement by creating an environment within which individuals and teams can excel.

Basic Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Engineering or Business. Advanced degree in Education preferred (M.Sc., Ph.D., etc.).

  • Minimum of 10 years of training/education experience, in a manufacturing and/or quality floor operations environment

  • 5 years of experience in a cGMP regulated environment including knowledge and experience with biotech/pharmaceutical regulatory expectations and inspections.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ leadership experience and demonstrated success in developing effective, competency-based technical training and education programs and platforms.

  • 3 years experience e-Learning content design.

  • 5 of years experience in learning measurement and evaluation

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Advanced degree in Education preferred (M.Sc., Ph.D., etc.).
