The Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS), is comprised of two large Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers located in Temple and Waco, a large stand-alone multi-specialty outpatient clinic in Austin, four outpatient clinics located in Brownwood, Bryan/College Station, Cedar Park, and Palestine plus a rural outreach clinic in La Grange.
CTVHCS has affiliation agreements with Texas A&M; College of Medicine/Baylor-Scott and White Healthcare System, the University of Texas Southwestern/Seton Healthcare Network, and the Texas Department of State Health Services. More than 250 Residents and Fellows are trained annually at CTHVCS, plus more than 200 medical students per year. Over 100 CTVHCS medical staff have faculty appointments with Texas A&M; College of Medicine.

This is an open continuous announcement which will remain open until 9/15/2017 This vacancy has multiple cut-off dates, with the 1st Cut-off date being 10/1/2016 and subsequent cut-offs every 14 days. Management retains the right to make additional selections as positions become available.
This is a bargaining unit position
The incumbent will be assigned to Mental Health and Behavioral Medicine (MH&BM;) Service, and provide psychiatric services to patients seeking treatment in the Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Clinical Team. The primary responsibilities will be in the assessment, management, and coordination of care for individuals with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as well as other anxiety disorders. It will be expected that the incumbent will take advantage of robust research and training activities including these at the Center of Excellence for PTSD located a short distance away. Duties include but are not limited to:
The incumbent will be under the supervision of the Chief, MH&BM;, Temple.
Performs teaching activities and supervision of fellows, residents, and medical students as are available.
Maintains an academic appointment with the Texas A&M; College of Medicine Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science.
Interest and or expertise in management of PTSD chronic, serious mental illnesses is preferred
but not mandatory.
- The incumbent will provide light on-call consultation coverage in rotation with several other
staff psychiatrists in Temple (1:17 call ratio).
- Although board certification is not a requirement, candidates with board certification are

Must have a degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
(1) Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the
year in which the degree was granted, or
(2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College
Accreditation (COCA) of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the
degree was granted.
(3) For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the
Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met
requirements for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the

Must have completed a residency training or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
(NOTE: VA Physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.)
Preferred Experience: Board certification in Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
