Perform comprehensive patient assessment including physical examinations in selected disease states keeping a census of 10-12 patients.
Or hold the admitting pager and do 6-8 H&Ps daily, helping the physicians meet their throughput goals.
Be familiar with the Core Competencies in Hospital Medicine.
Collect and evaluate diagnostic data.
Assure necessary medication and other therapies are prescribed in collaboration with a physician.
Formulate plan of care in collaboration with patient and a multidisciplinary team.
Foster communication with patient and family in order to promote wellness, prevent health problems, maintain current health status and intervene in acute and chronic illness with explanation of disease process and appropriate tracking.
Evaluate patient and family outcomes and modify plan of care in consultation with physicians and other health team member.
Facilitate continuity of care within the group and make referrals as appropriate. Interface with ancillary services and consultants.
Communicate patient care through appropriate documentation. Evaluate and implement research findings in clinical practice.
Demonstrate advanced communication skills. Facilitate medication reconciliation on admission and on discharge.
Facilitate the timely discharge process by enhancing efficiency with the group.
Augment practice productivity.
Be familiar with TJC Core Measures and implementation of same.
Perform selected procedures with appropriate certification.
Collaborate with physician on patient coverage, answer pages, and patient delegation.
Collect billing information from daily visits, hand billing in at discharge or when going off service.Collaborate with nursing staff and physician to improve relationships.
Seek professional growth through participation in continuing education, staff development, and committee participation; maintain current licensure and certification especially in regard to hospitalist care competencies.
Comply with the Mercy Hospital policies and procedures protecting patient rights for informed consent and the handling of confidential information.

- Current licensure to practice professional nursing in the state of Missouri. Knowledge of Mercy Hospital rules and regulations.
