The Tucson VA is the principal teaching affiliate with the University of Arizona Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy; medical students, residents, and fellows rotate at the facility. Therefore, the selected candidate must also be eligible for an appointment with the University of Arizona. The Tucson VA is a tertiary care facility providing a full range of clinical services including cardiac surgery and neurosurgery. It has been a flagship quality provider within the VA and was a 2012 winner of the prestigious Robert W. Carey Performance Excellence Award.

We are currently seeking, for immediate fill, a dedicated leader who is ready to serve those who have served. The incumbent will serve as an effective clinical leader as the Chief Health Informatics Officer.

Duties Included, but not limited to the following

  1. Serves at Clinical Informatics Champion:

a. Chairs Provider Clinical Informatics Committee which oversees provider informatics program development in all clinical areas.

b. Develops provider driven Strategic Informatics Plan

c. Direct Clinical Informatics Section in the prioritization, development and implementation of provider driven informatics programs, measure and processes.

d. Additional responsibilities include the development and oversight of patient disease specific registries.

e. Education of staff in registry utilization and maintenance

f. Builds and develops data driver tool(s) to identify high risk patients

g. Development of measures and monitors to evaluate impact and effectiveness of provider informatics program

  1. Provides oversight and implementation of the Clinical Documentation Improvement program.

  2. Provides oversight for Nursing Informatics program.

  3. Provides oversight for CPRS applications.

  4. Provides oversight for BCMA, PCMM and SQL programmer(s).

  5. Improves quality of care through data analytics.

  6. Promotes Excellence in Patient Centered Care by monitoring Veteran experience and access to healthcare outpatient satisfaction metrics.

  7. Develops clinical strategies and assures clinical leadership oversight for effective use of institutional resources by improving access.

  8. Collaborates with System Redesign, HIMS, Compliance, Safety and QM (SAIL) processes.

  9. Works to decrease View Alert burden.

  10. Supervise Information Program Analyst.

  11. Has an active clinical practice.

  12. Accepts other duties as assigned by the Chief of Staff.

Basic Requirements:

  1. Must be proficient in written and spoken English.

  2. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.

  3. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

  4. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to physically and mentally perform the duties in an inpatient/outpatient setting under normal and emergent conditions. Heavy lifting 45 lbs and over with assistive devices, heavy carrying of 45 lbs and over with assistive devices; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers, both hands required, walking or standing up to 6 hours per day; repeated bending up to 2-4 hours per day; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination; near vision correctable; hearing aid permitted.

What To Expect Next
