The candidate will be supporting the US v. Volkswagen (VW) case. The case involves violations stemming from VW’s manufacture and installation of “defeat devices” in vehicles equipped with 2.0 and 3.0 liter engines that were imported and sold in the United States. The “defeat devices” involved in the case are undisclosed software in the vehicles’ electronic control module that directs the engine to optimize emissions controls to meet emission standards for nitrogen oxides (“NOx”) during prescribed federal test procedures, but to perform differently on the road to enhance engine performance, thereby reducing the effectiveness of the vehicles’ emission control systems. This results in substantially higher NOx emissions adverse to EPA-compliant levels.

The work will involve legal research, document review/management on the Relativity platform, database management/review, case preparation including heavy involvement in phases of discovery, memos and presentations. Work will also involve exhibit compilation/copying, creating binders for attorney teams and status reports. Trial support will be required as well.

A qualified candidate will possess the following;

• JD Required

• At least 3 years experience working in litigation support in a fast paced, time sensitive environment.

• Experience with WestLaw, Lexis Nexis research tools as well as Concordance and Relativity platforms. Comfort working with databases.

• Experience working with legal briefs and compiling exhibits.

• Familiarity and comfort with Bluebook and checking legal citations.

• Strong communication and writing skills.

• Ability to manage multiple tasks at one time and prioritize workloads.

• Ability to obtain a government security clearance.

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Ability to travel with trial team

Knowledge of Sanction and/or Trial Director is preferred as well.
