Immediate contract opportunity located near Waukegan, IL for a Mechanical Design Engineer at a leading manufacturer of scientific and testing equipment used for material testing. This position is responsible for the invention, design, testing, validation and commercialization of new products. The ideal candidate will have a BS Degree in Engineering (prefer Mechanical Engineering) and at least five (5) years experience designing electro-mechanical equipment from concept to production. This position is a contract role slated to last initially for six months with the possibility for extension. APPLY NOW!

Responsibilities for the Mechanical Design Engineer

  • Responsible for the invention, design, testing, validation and commercialization of new products

  • Manage and lead new product development projects and/or the revision of existing products

  • Develop machines and specify components for automated test and measurement equipment

  • Develop designs on 3D CAD and managing those designs to completion including iterative engineering testing and customer validation

  • Develop project plans including resource requirements, schedule, project cost, unit cost and tooling cost.

  • Create engineering drawings, bill of materials, manufacturing assembly instructions and product testing procedures.

  • Complete product design risk assessments (FMEA and safety risk assessments) on new product designs

Requirements for the Mechanical Design Engineer

  • B.S. in Engineering is required (Mechanical Engineering discipline is preferred)

  • Must have experience designing automated electro-mechanical equipment

  • Fluency in 3D CAD (AutoCad Inventor or SolidWorks preferred)

  • Familiar with mechanisms, motors, controls, clutches, brakes, gearing, tooling and assembly methods.

  • Experience of successful project management with budget and schedule responsibilities

  • Ability to troubleshoot electro-mechanical equipment
