Your tasks and responsibilities

The Director, Sales Strategy leads the development of the strategic sales plan for assigned businesses, incorporating brand objectives and strategies, shopper insights and customer requirements. The incumbent will plan and executes all activities through the management of direct and indirect resources related to sales and marketing in order to maximize sales volume and achieve profit objectives. The incumbent institutes strategic business plans that integrate, align, and achieve retailer and Bayer Consumer Healthcare goals to drive sales growth. The Director, Sale Strategy leads the business planning process while influencing and coordinating the efforts of cross-functional teams to ensure effective implementation of the plan. The incumbent partners with Sales and Marketing to optimize information and best practice sharing. The Director, Sales Strategy also serves as a liaison between all internal cross-functional partners to provide interpretation and direction on their respective strategies to the account teams. The incumbent creates and implements tools to ensure communication, alignment, and execution of the sales strategy.

The incumbent will:

•Lead the development of the annual national trade plans by brand/category, focusing on Bayer brand business goals and Customer Requirements while leveraging all data sources including consumer/shopper insights and syndicated data. The national trade plan includes the following strategies and tactics: -Promotional -Pricing -Distribution -Shelving •Serve as the voice of Sales with Marketing on Brand Business Teams providing Sales perspective and POV and proactively champions/influences sales aspects of key initiatives such as: -4 P’s (promotional, placement, product/ assortment, pricing) -Timing -Trade activation needs -Customer response -Competitive Intelligence •Oversee the development of new item launch strategy and sales communications, including: -Launch distribution goals -Promotional strategies and tactics -Shelving objectives -Shopper strategies and tactics -Pricing objectives -New Item Launch materials -Presenting the new item to the sales organization -Presenting the new item to Customers •Act as an organizational advocate to enhance understanding and potential application of shopper engagement; •Assist in the sell in to Customers of new products and Brand business objectives; •Lead and support the business planning process for assigned business units; ensure information provided is accurate, on-time, clear, actionable and meets sales team and retailer requirements; •Serve as the internal voice of the customer sales teams and leads/addresses any national or retailer specific strategic opportunities or issues with appropriate cross-functional stakeholders including, but not limited to, marketing, finance, operations/supply and demand planning, project management, R&D; •Recruit, manage, and motivate a team of direct reports to meet business objectives. Develop and train the team, providing coaching and feedback to build members’ strengths and address developmental areas.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position:

•Knowledge equivalent to BS/BA degree (MBA desirable) plus 12 years of progressive sales experience in the consumer package goods industry. This should include 7–9 years working cross functionally with sales, marketing and finance, demonstrating expertise with P&Ls; •Expertise in building consensus, gaining alignment and decision making across functions; to include senior leaders. Ability to take into account broad cross-functional implications, benefits and risks. Proven people development skills in developing, coaching and motivating direct reports and peers; proven track record of delivering results through others; •Excellent financial management skills to assess trade merchandising programs and cost investments versus results; ability to streamline operational processes. Superior analytical ability, assessing different models and related outputs; •Exceptional knowledge of retailer landscape and how to impact the total market. Ability to understand the impact of individual decisions to Bayer’s total business and relevant long term implications. Prior direct selling leadership experience at one of Bayer’s top national retailers and sales strategy or sales operations experience required; •Excellent written and oral communication skills. The incumbent must exemplify superior critical thinking through multi-task problem solving (i.e., process management), practical judgment and financial analysis. •Proven negotiation skills: In-depth experience aligning multiple teams with conflicting objectives to a common outcome. Proven ability to develop win-win solutions to complex situations. Superior problem solving skills; •Robust analytical capabilities across a variety of data sources and platforms; advanced computer literacy skill required, specifically MS Excel and PowerPoint.
