Your tasks and responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of this role, as a Director, Business Development and Licensing – Animal Health, are to:
• Develop, define and document the partnering strategy and search priorities together with the Animal Health division and lead activities to achieve the unit’s strategic objectives; • Expand an already established network and maintain regular contact with AH companies across the globe for projects of interest; • Initiate and manage in-licensing of strategically relevant assets; • Initiate and manage out-licensing of non-strategic assets; • Lead all AH BD&L projects from start to finish: • Constantly analyze the competitive landscape across multiple therapeutic areas and scout for opportunities; • Prepare and coordinate the scientific and commercial assessments of external opportunities together with the relevant functions; • Analyze potential contamination issues on a global basis where appropriate • Negotiate basic terms of a potential collaboration with the partner; • Negotiate full contractual agreement with the partner in alignment with the legal function; • Collaborate and drive decision-making regarding BD&L opportunities with internal stakeholders and external partners; • Present projects for internal approvals to global decision bodies and manage key stakeholders in order to gain support for project; • Summarize duties and responsibilities for the implementation of a partnership via Alliance Management or another appropriate group.

• University Degree in Natural Sciences and/or Business Administration (BA/BS) with15+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical / biotech or animal health industry. An equivalent combination of education and experience can supersede requirements; • Advanced Degree (i.e. MBA, PhD, D.V.M., M.D.) desirable; • Executive level experience in evaluating healthcare licensing opportunities as well as deal structure development, negotiations & completing transactions; • In depth understanding of the healthcare industry licensing process; • In depth understanding of indications and trends in the AH Division; • Experienced in licensing transactions for R&D technologies, early stage assets, marketed brands, and M&A transactions; • Direct experience in managing relationships and being the interface to Pharma, Biotech, and industry partners as an articulate communicator with strong negotiation skills; • Proven ability to build and maintain effective internal and external partnerships; • Strengths in creating clear organizational and procedural structures and principles for complex processes; • Ability to set clear priorities and give respective guidance; • Strong commitment to success and accountability; • Reputation of high personal integrity among peer group; • Courage and creativity in conflict situations; • Profound network into all relevant HQ functions; • Special Skills Needed for the Position; • Ability to lead cross-functional teams without reporting relationships; • Good interpersonal skills in managing multicultural business relationships; • Fluent in written and spoken English; • Strength in managing and motivating teams in challenging environments with diverse stakeholder interests; • Strengths in creating clear procedural structures and principles for complex processes; • Seniority and ability to self-sufficiently negotiate contracts with external companies.
