We are actively looking for an entry level Technician to support operations and maintenance of remediation systems for the Whiting Refinery in Whiting Indiana. Responsibilities include daily operations, test and maintenance of groundwater remediation systems, daily data collection, periodic transducer installation and downloading, periodic field sampling, and daily communication with other technicians, engineers and the client.

Additional responsibilities will be determined based upon the needs of remediation group clients and may require priorities to be adjusted on short notice.

This is an entry level position for a recent vocational or high school graduate with strong mechanical and analytical skills, that is interested in working in the remediation field in an active refinery. being mentored and developed into Position will report to a senior environmental engineer and will work with various engineers, scientists and administrative personnel. Additionally, candidate will interact with safety and human resources staff.

Additional Responsibilities:

Performs non-routine and occasionally heavy labor tasks related to on-site industrial waste, hazardous waste, field environmental surveys or operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities.

Collects samples and maintain documentation in record logs.

Operates trucks, pumps, vacuum equipment, oil booms, generators, and other machinery/equipment. Establishes and maintains appropriate logs of activities.

Tests, calibrates, repairs, and modifies control and instrumentation systems at on-site locations under general supervision. Some assignments are undertaken independently. May give some leadership and guidance to lower level Technicians.

Prepares required field and office reports of various activities and findings. May initiate reports and/or establish and maintain logs and records.

Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.


High School diploma, and prefer technical/vocational diploma

Prefer 1-2 years of related work experience with remediation functions and related equipment, or strong background working with mechanical equipment and an interest in remediation.

Experience testing and maintaining equipment preferred.

Experience performing field sampling preferred.

Completion of a 40-hour OSHA training course (with an annual 8-hour update) will be required.

Position requires ability to work both independently and as part of a team, effective time management, written and verbal communication skills, mechanical aptitude, analytical and interpersonal skills, and a desire to learn and grow professionally.

Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel is required.

Successful candidate will be interested and comfortable with both field work and office work; will show solid decision-making, organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills; will be able to perform on multiple projects, as needed.

Successful candidate will have to undergo 40 hour Hazwoper training and 10 hour OSHA construction training and will be required to obtain homeland security clearance (TWIC). Ability to work safely in industrial settings and in the field and use requisite safety equipment is also required.

Interest and previous experience with groundwater remediation systems, oil recovery form the ground, and soil and groundwater sampling is a plus. Technician needs to have a strong safety culture and be able to work in an industrial setting with strong control of work rules. Technician must be flexible with respect to work tasks, and have the ability to work with diverse people and skill sets.
