ColonialWebb is seeking an experienced and talented Plumbing Estimator for commercial construction projects. As Plumbing Estimator, you will support our large construction division which focuses on mechanical systems in commercial buildings. Typical projects include hospitals, high-rises, government facilities, data centers, and universities.

What you will do:

  • Prepare cost estimates for plumbing and piping systems.

  • Review plans and specifications to determine the scope of work.

  • Account for labor, material, equipment, subcontractors, and other direct costs within estimates.

  • Take-off material and provide accurate quantity surveys. Adjust labor production factors based on the degree of difficulty.

  • Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure accurate and competitive pricing.

  • Prepare conceptual estimates to support budget proposals.

  • Support sales initiatives including interviews and presentations.

  • Participate in design/build activities.

  • Develop value engineering options that reduce costs and enhance the quality of work performed.

  • Prepare and augment drawings.

  • Attend meetings with Project Management to review the progress of projects and estimating activities.

  • Teach and provide support to junior estimators.

  • Perform additional assignments as requested by the Estimating Manager.

What we are looking for:

Experience, Education, and Certifications:

  • Current or previous estimating experience with plumbing and piping systems in commercial, industrial, or institutional contracting.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field is nice to have, but not required. Individuals without a degree should have prior field experience or detailing experience, at a high level coupled with a strong analytical/ problem-solving background.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to produce conceptual estimates for design-build and design-assist mechanical construction projects.

  • Advanced understanding of plumbing and piping systems, associated equipment, drawings, and specifications.

  • Knowledge of building materials, engineering standards, and codes.

  • Experience producing cost estimates for fully operational plumbing and piping systems while working off potentially incomplete drawings.

  • Demonstrated skills, experience and proficiency with Microsoft Excel for cost estimating and engineering functions. Computer-aided estimating software experience, such as, FastEst/QuickPen/Trimble MEP/etc.… is a plus, but not required.

  • Ability to interpret computerized cost data, systems, and load calculation programs.

  • Ability to deal diplomatically and communicate effectively with internal and external customers at various levels within an organization-i.e., GC’s, subcontractors, engineers, superintendents, drafters, etc.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to handle a dynamic, evolving, and fast-paced workload under deadlines.

  • Client management skills; able to manage customer relationships, perceptions and expectations.

  • Willingness and ability to train and mentor other estimators with lesser experience.
